The biological clock doesn’t always have to tick according to a man who is determined to turn back time.

As a biohacker, he said his aging process is 31% slower than the average person’s, but he doesn’t owe his success to skincare.

Simon Sakhaifounder Jung’s longevity and past president of the Oxford Society of Aging and Longevity.

He explained how his biological age is 28 while his chronological age is 37.

“Biological age is a measure that aims to capture how old my body is in terms of deterioration and how close it actually is to ‘dying’ – that is, the risk of mortality,” he told The US Sun.

“Therefore, a biological age of 28 suggests that my body is in a much younger state than my chronological age.”

Sakhai explained how his aging process works with a rate of 0.68, compared to the average aging speed.

“Aging rate is a measure of how quickly my body is aging/deteriorating over time,” he said.

Sakhai’s body is aging 31% slower than the average person.

“In other words, for every year I live, my body only ‘ages’ about 8.23 months,” he said.

SKIN CARE SCAM?

Sakhai said when it comes to skin care today, he’s not his biggest fan.

“There is a revolution happening in the skin care industry. Topical skin care is an outdated approach,” he said.

What a thrifty biohacker eats per day

“The introduction of longevity science and a more integrated approach to health is revealing the fact that skin health starts from within.

“And that much of what we put on our face does not always improve skin health and often harms it.”

He added that top brands that previously promoted topical skin care are looking at in-house options, i.e. supplements.

Sakhai also explained why applying serums, creams and the like just won’t cut it.

“The skin organ evolved over millions of years as a literal barrier to protect your internal organs from the outside world. It didn’t evolve to ‘absorb’ nutrients, that’s what your stomach is for,” he said.

“Applying creams to your skin in the hope that your body will absorb them is like playing music on your toes and hoping you can hear it.”

He added that the molecules in most skincare products, including popular ones like hyaluronic acid, are too large to enter the body through the skin and make a significant difference.

“For something to pass through the skin, it needs to be less than 500 daltons in size,” he said.

“Meanwhile, popular topical skin care ingredients like hyaluronic acid can range in size from 5,000 to 20,000,000 daltons.”

INSTANT RESULTS

Many who use skincare products boast that they feel an immediate difference in their skin.

Sakhai warned that this could be due to the compound getting trapped in the pores, creating a smooth sensation.

“Most skin care is obsessed with ‘moisture,’ in part because it’s something people can easily ‘see and feel,’” he said.

“So the strategy of most topical skin products involves clogging the external pores with molecules so that moisture cannot escape.”

“The obvious problem is that skin needs a certain level of breathability – or to breathe ‘on its terms’.”

“Unfortunately, we know more about the surface of the Moon than we do about the skin’s microbiome.”

He added that while moisture can be good for the skin, it is not indicative of anti-aging results.

“Skin care companies would rather sell you something that you ‘feel’ is working rather than something that is actually good for you that you might not be able to feel on your face,” he said.

OVER THE MOON

Sakhai mentioned how the effects of microscopic organisms living on the skin are essential for a youthful complexion.

“We are beginning to discover that we actually have more ‘foreign’ cells in our bodies than human cells. And that these foreign cells are crucial to our functioning and health,” he said.

“The skin is no exception, there is a remarkable ecosystem of bacteria that live on the skin with which we co-evolved and have a symbiotic and beneficial relationship.

“Unfortunately, we know more about the surface of the Moon than we do about the skin’s microbiome.”

Sakhai said skin products can potentially damage the barrier.

“When we apply topical products, serums, soaps or acids, we are radically altering the natural environments of this microbiome, which can inadvertently lead to deterioration and rapid aging of the skin.”

ESSENTIAL ORGAN

Sakhai added that seeking skin care internally rather than topically is not just important, it’s essential for overall health.

“Ultimately, skin isn’t just a ‘nice to have.’ It’s the foundation of your immune system,” he said.

“Your body is bombarded with trillions of toxins and bacteria trying to get into your body and cause harm. When your skin is healthy, it can stop them from getting in.”

Sakhai said weakening skin from improper use of skin care products can lead to a number of long-term health problems.

“When the skin is less healthy, it loses its ability to act as a barrier,” he added.

“This means your body is primed to constantly fight these toxins, causing excessive damage to the body, chronic inflammation, and a cascade of health effects that will accelerate aging in every organ in the body.”
