A MAN has sparked a heated debate after breaking up with his stay-at-home wife because she was too lazy.

The ex-husband explained that he made the decision to divorce his wife after she refused to return to work after maternity leave.

As reported by The Mirrorthe relationship between the pair soured after they became pregnant three years into a happy marriage.

The father, 30, shared on Reddit: “I married my wife (30) about five years ago.

”We had been dating since high school. I loved how smart, ambitious and driven she was.

“We bonded over academics and nerdy topics. We both got good jobs in the same city right after college.

The couple became parents three years later and decided to send their son to daycare after six months.

However, when the six months finally ended, the wife allegedly refused to return to work and sent the child to daycare.

“She argued that if he was able to work more, then they could afford a single family income – and at the same time save the family money by being a stay-at-home mom.”

The husband refused and insisted that daycare was “normal.”

“If it were just me working, I would have to work a lot more hours, be exhausted and not spend as much time with my son,” the father explained in the post.

”I said if she was scared of daycare, we could work different shifts to stay home with our baby. As a tag team.

“She refuses to say it doesn’t work for her and as a mother she needs to be with her baby all the time.”

This caused a huge fight between the couple. In the end, the mother quit her job and, he insisted, expected her husband to also take care of the household chores, including preparing dinner during the week and cooking, cleaning and babysitting on the weekends.

This, she explained, was because “mothers who stay at home deserve breaks too”.

In total, the husband estimated that he worked more than 80 hours a week at the office and spent another 28 hours doing household chores.

The long and tiring hours of work and household chores left him with a maximum of 12 hours a week with his son.

”That dynamic really made me resent her. I tried to communicate many times.

“The load of bills and insane work hours, as well as not being able to enjoy time with my baby, really upset me.

“When I was sure she wouldn’t listen to me, I asked for a divorce.”

In the end, they were both awarded 50:50 custody and that no alimony was legally required as it was also proven that it was the wife’s decision to remain at home.

However, since they split, she has struggled to make ends meet financially – and her ex-husband refuses to pay for daycare costs as his mother looks after their son during working hours.

The father said: “My baby stays with my mother when I work. My mother offered the same to my ex, but she was so mad at me that she refused and enrolled our baby in daycare.

”I refused to pay because she could just leave our son with my mother.”

His ex-wife and her friends now criticize the man for the divorce and for not providing any financial support.

He added in the comments that their marriage was “based on equality” and that he never wanted to be the sole breadwinner.

”And to everyone telling me that stay-at-home mom is the best and the thing to do if you can afford it, I was clearly saying we couldn’t.”

‘I think you should have cut your wife some slack’

The incident left other Redditors completely divided, as they came together to share their thoughts.

One social media user said: “You didn’t get divorced because she was a housewife.

”You divorced because the two of you were unable to communicate openly and make decisions together – like finances and childcare.”

Another agreed, writing: “Because she thought she had all the power to dictate the new terms, like Darth Vader.”

Meanwhile, someone else labeled his ex-wife “driven” and wondered why there was no time for “daddy’s” vacation.

However, not everyone understood the situation, as one wife considered that her ex-husband had made a hasty decision and should have acted calmly with his partner.

She said: “This post just makes me feel more grateful for my husband. Marriage is about commitment and things change all the time between people in marriage.

I really think you were hasty in getting divorced

”Having a child is a life changer. I think you should have cut your wife some slack.

“What about her wanting you to cook. It’s very difficult to prepare dinner when you have young children.

“You could have made dinner for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Prepared basic food. Made everything fun. Staying at home is also work.

”You two are working technically. One of you just doesn’t get paid for your work. I really think you were hasty in getting divorced.”
