Jess explained that she and her husband no longer sleep in the same bed, as they almost got divorced in their sleep.

The 28-year-old shares a two-and-a-half-year-old son with Dylan, and explained that the entire time he was alive the couple “didn’t sleep”, due to his son not being able to sleep through the night.

“Being sleep deprived has wreaked havoc on our jobs, our daily lives and also our relationships,” she said.

Jess, who uses a wheelchair part-time, said she believes a lack of sleep probably also contributed to her poor health.

In November, the couple decided to put an extra double bed in their son’s room and now Jess shares the room with her son and Dylan stays in the couple’s room.

“Since then, my son has slept through the night,” she said.

She added that this sleeping arrangement made her and Dylan feel “so rested” and said it did “absolute wonders” for their relationship.

“We don’t fight anymore,” she said.

Jess said if anyone else is in the same boat as the couple, she would definitely recommend they try sleeping in different beds.

Despite not sharing a bed, Jess said that she and Dylan still make time to be intimate together, and revealed that she misses him when he’s sleeping in his son’s room.

A second person added: “Me and my ex used to have separate bedrooms and it was a reflection of our very unhappy relationship, now I embrace cuddling to sleep every night.”

The best sleep routine and environment

Thomas Høegh Reisenhus, sleep expert and TEMPUR® sleep advisor, reveals the key components of a good bedtime routine and environment…

A surefire way to facilitate a better night’s sleep is to practice good sleep hygiene.

Establish a sleep routine that works for you and stick to it.

This will help your body establish a consistent and natural sleep-wake cycle, which can do wonders for your overall sleep quality.

As such, try to avoid making up for lost sleep by sleeping in later.

Instead of sleeping in, spend the morning reading a book in bed or drinking coffee in the kitchen.

Make sure your bedroom, bedding and nightwear are also fit for purpose.

The ideal sleeping environment is dark, quiet and cool – much like a cave.

If you find that unwanted light sources are keeping you awake, consider investing in an eye mask or blackout curtains.

Adding upholstery can be a great way to reduce noise, with surfaces having an absorbent quality, but if that doesn’t work, consider adopting a soft soundtrack to block it out.

In terms of temperature, try to keep your room at 18°C. You can further reduce the risk of waking up due to overheating by ensuring all of your bedding and pajamas are made from natural, breathable materials such as cotton and linen.

Keep in mind that everyone is different; What may work for most, may not work for you!

While knowing how much sleep you should get, how to overcome common barriers, and practicing good sleep hygiene can facilitate a great night’s sleep, if you continue to persistently struggle with sleep or fatigue, don’t hesitate to consult a doctor or healthcare professional. to get support. .

A third said: “I haven’t slept with my partner since I was pregnant and his snoring was driving me crazy.

“We both sleep better!”

A fourth added: “Sleep is important.

“As human beings, we place a lot of emphasis on sleeping in the same bed as something romantic.

“Forget that, get good quality sleep separately, it will help your health a lot.”
