A FORMER trading wife has revealed the difficulties she faced when she got divorced and had to learn basic skills such as driving a car.

A traditional wife (short for traditional wife) is a woman who chooses to take on an ultra-traditional role in her marriage, meaning she cooks dinner and looks pretty while her husband goes to work.

Traditional wives choose to dress in the style of clothing popular during this period (think floral dresses and slouchy cardigans).

Furthermore, the values considered important to the traditions are similar to strict Christian values.

Traditional wives maintain that they are not forced into this way of life and believe that their purpose is to be homemakers.

Ophelia Maraschino revealed that she was a trans wife 10 years ago, after getting married very young, at 17 years old.

In a TikTok video, Ophelia, who is from Melbourne, Australia, said that at 21 she had two children under the age of three and spent all her time looking after them and her husband.

She explained that children could only attend a Steiner school, where they were not allowed to use screens or technology.

The mother described the school as “cultured” and said she herself would not have chosen to send her children there, but she had no choice.

Ophelia said that when she was a cheating wife, she loved her husband “unconditionally” and would do anything he said.

Unlike many traditional wives, Ophelia said she worked, but only seven hours a week.

She said: “It was not enough to have financial independence, but to have a little pocket money.”

Upon realizing that life as a trad wife was not for her, Ophelia decided to leave, but said she was unable to earn money due to her lack of work history.

The mother of two is now 34, has just started her course and has learned to drive.

“I’m a good 10-15 years behind everyone else my age in terms of organizing my finances and building a career for myself,” she said.

Ophelia warned other women against following the traditional wife lifestyle as she said if they ever get divorced they will have a very difficult time finding a job.

The mother’s video, which was posted under the username @ophelia.maraschinoit probably struck a chord with a lot of people as it racked up over 174,000 views on the video-sharing platform.
