Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the “hot rodent man” trend.
TikTokers are talking about it, newspaper columnists are writing about it, and women are going crazy for men who are the opposite of what we would consider conventionally handsome.
The term refers to a number of sought-after celebrities who resemble rodents with their rat-like appearances. characteristics like pointy faces, round eyes and protruding ears.
These men are not tall in stature and are slightly thin.
They’re the kind of guys that women wouldn’t necessarily expect to be turned on by and the total antidote to Barbie’s Ken.
But these hot rodents – yes, Kieran Culkin, Josh O’Connor, Mike Faist, Jeremy Allen White, Timothy ChalametAdam Driver, Barry Keoghan and Matt Healy, I’m looking at you – are having their moment in the sun and I have to say I’m not surprised.
This tendency for women to opt for unconventional men has always existed.
There have always been men who have so much charisma, confidence and talent that they are irresistible, even if they are not typically handsome. Anyone who is Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate knows what I mean.
He was hardly a hunk—he didn’t seem to want to grab you, take you to his cave, and have his wicked way with you. But he was very sexy and women went crazy for him.
So this trend is not new, it has just been renamed.
As one TikToker said last week: “It’s a hot summer for rodent boyfriends, but I signed up for this class a long time ago. The rat boys were always around and they were always the hottest.”
I saw Saltburn and although Barry Keoghan doesn’t do it for me, women like him madly. He had a lot of body confidence and colossal enthusiasm when he did that naked dance.
It’s this arrogance and charisma that is so sexy and clearly his singer girlfriend, Sabrina Carter, agrees.
Likewise, no one can make cutting vegetables look as seductive as Jeremy Allen White in The Bear, and although Willy Wonka was never a sex symbol, Timothee Chalamet made a brown velvet coat look attractive in Wonka.
Personally, I am more Wesley Snipes is a bit of a girl and I don’t like the weasel look.
That being said, I would never rule out dating someone with this appearance because if he was attractive, good-natured, and energetic, of course I would consider it.
‘Oppressive and boring’
The idea that to be fantasy you need to look a certain way is not true. It’s totally oppressive and boring.
I know some attractive, sexy women who have chosen men of diminutive stature who you could say are a little crazy, but the moment you start talking to them you totally understand.
The whole perfect, muscular action man look is a little dated. As we saw from the lukewarm response to this year’s Love Island “bits and pieces”.
I went on a date with a male model years ago, and he was beautiful and perfect.
He was 6 feet tall, incredibly thin, very heavyset, and had flawless skin and beautiful eyes.

When he asked me out, I couldn’t believe it.
I was very excited, but it turned out that the guy was extraordinarily boring.
So maybe these rodents are a lot more fun? Maybe they’re better in bed and adorable for dinner.
I know a lot of young women may feel like it’s a case of double standards that they are expected to look a certain way with the right hair, breasts and dress size, while all these men have women falling at their feet even if they look like rats. . .
As another TikToker put it: “How come they don’t have hot rodent girlfriends?”
But we all know that the most attractive thing is to be yourself and that looking a little different is something to be valued.
The “hot rodent man” trend is something worth celebrating as far as I’m concerned, and long may we encourage people to feel good about being different!
