Warning: By choosing to read this article, you agree to be subjected to a bunch of cheesy puns. Still with me? Great, let’s continue. (Okay, I’ll try to use them more sparingly.) While I enjoy a good play on words, what do I really love is efficiency; As a former baker who now makes a living testing and writing about kitchen products, anything that can help me progress during meal prep is a winner for me. But not every disposable gadget deserves precious drawer space. (A pistachio opener? Spare me.) Some of them, however, are actually useful, and if you plan on consuming lots of cobs this summer, allow me to introduce you to the Chef’n Cob Corn Stripper.

This gadget ($9 a pop) is for anyone like me who does no I like a mouth full of sticky teeth and I’d rather eat loose grains from a bowl, thank you very much. Not only does the Stripper work faster than a knife, it’s also safer to use – hell yes!

There are many tips for removing corn kernels. One involves taking a Bundt pan, sticking the cob into the center hole, and cutting the kernels so the pan catches them. This is all well and good, except for the fact that balancing an ear of corn on its narrow end while holding a knife has probably led to a lot of finger accidents. You can also use a vegetable peeler toolbut this only allows you to remove one narrow column at a time.

What defines the Chef’n Cob Corn Stripper The difference is that it hits the entire ear at once. The inside is equipped with a sharp, ring-shaped blade that separates the kernels from the cob, keeping your fingers out of harm’s way. All you do is place one end of the ear inside and rotate the remover in a downward motion. Ta-da! Oh, and after it works its magic at your farmer’s market, it can go on the top rack of your dishwasher for easy cleanup. That’s what I’m “chasing” about!

[our] daughter has braces and cannot eat corn on the cob. We can do this a lot quicker for her now.”

“This saved a lot of time and kernel!” exclaimed one third. “I used to cut the corn on the cob with a knife and I had kernels everywhere due to limited mobility in my left hand. With this, I can easily get the corn off the cob and into the bowl, without casualties. … My family is obsessed with my homemade corn chowder and now I’m not afraid to make it for them.

“For the most part, it removed the grains perfectly,” wrote one mainly content reviewer. “However, sometimes it got a little bit wrong on the narrowest part of the cob. We went back and focused on the edge on each side and cleaned it up. The other challenge was removing the device from the thicker end without practically throwing corn. It took a little practice, but we were able to control it a little more by slowly turning the tang and stripper in opposite directions until it was basically spinning.” That said, they added: “It has held up really well, will be used again and is definitely something I would buy again!”

“This will work out your forearm muscles,” admitted one ultimate fan“but [it’s] safer [and] more efficient in cutting all the corn.”
