While you probably know Martha Stewart for her top-notch cooking, gardening, and general household knowledge, there’s something to be said for her skincare efforts, too. The 82-year-old billionaire had a heart-to-heart with her dermatologist, Dr. Dan Belkin, on your podcast, saying that she has used Botox, fillers, peelings and treatments to firm her skin. “I don’t think much about age, but I don’t want to look my age. And that’s why I really work hard at it,” she said. She also shared that she “never leaves the house” without using sunscreen, specifically one that her doctor recommended: Alastin HydraTint Pro Broad Spectrum Mineral Sunscreen.

Alastino

$76 at Alastin

The dermatologist-approved sunscreen is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and fragrance-free, so it’s especially great for those with sensitive skin. It has broad-spectrum SPF 36 to provide UVA and UVB sun protection, but it’s super lightweight—not at all greasy or sticky—and is water-resistant for up to 40 minutes. It also contains antioxidants to protect the skin from blue light (like that from your computer or phone), pollution and infrared rays. And it’s colorful, to brighten and even out your skin tone – we love multitasking.

Alastino is a company that a lot of dermatologists really like,” said Belkin. “Sunscreen is just sunscreen, but tinted sunscreen has more coverage, so it has more UVA coverage, and UVA is the type of UV that causes aging – signs of aging. So having a tint means you’re blocking more UVA and you typically get better coverage from it.

Stewart shared that she mixes her Alastin tinted sunscreen with a little serum for thinning and then applies it all over her face, chest, forearms, and hands. She also said she likes the light bronze color it gives her. But most importantly, “it really works,” she said.

Stewart and his doctor aren’t the only ones who love Alastin. TikTok users I’ve been raving about this over the past few years, with many using it in place of foundation — myself included. I bought my first bottle about two years ago and I never use foundation again. It gives my skin just enough coverage, even on days when my rosacea is at its worst, without looking or feeling too heavy.

However, there are some disadvantages. First, it only comes in one color. For me, the color blends perfectly with my skin whether it’s the dead of winter or if I have a nice summer tan, but some users may need to mix it with their foundation or a few bronzing drops. And it’s definitely not cheap—a 3.2-ounce bottle costs $76. That said, a little goes a long way and one bottle lasts almost a full year. (One dose is enough to cover my face every morning.)

You can buy Stewart’s favorite sunscreen at Amazon or at select dermatologists’ offices, but if you can Alastino, you can sign up to save a little more money, plus receive free shipping and a free gift. Still, if you’re looking to spend less than Stewart—and we certainly don’t blame you—Yahoo Life’s beauty editor rounded up her favorite tinted sunscreens for 2024, and they start at just $14. (You can also get the glow of Martha without the SPF, courtesy of an affordable L’Oreal lotion.)
