Why is it a good deal?

You can’t put a price on safety, but $20 is extremely reasonable for a product that could literally save lives. This isn’t the lowest price we’ve seen on this model, but it’s almost as low as we saw it drop last year – almost 40% off.

Why do I need this?

True story: Because I’m obsessed with safety, I check every hotel and Airbnb room I stay in to see if it has a carbon monoxide detector. I was recently in an Airbnb that only had smoke detectors. So what did I do? I went out and bought the Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector.

It may seem a little extreme, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. As this portable model is quite compact, I plan to keep it in my bag just in case. After all, vacations are much more enjoyable with a little peace of mind!

At less than a pound and 5 inches wide, the Kidde is a smart travel companion, but it’s also ideal for home use. Requires two AA batteries (included) and can be wall-mounted or placed on a table or other flat surface. To ensure it is working, press the test button (it makes noise). A green light means it’s on, but a red light and beeping sound means you should leave immediately.

This compact carbon monoxide detector comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s limited warranty, but you’ll want to make sure the batteries are always working well. (Speaking of batteries: Since it doesn’t plug into an outlet, it will continue to work during power outages.)

What the reviewers say

More than 25,000 Amazon customers are sleeping easier with Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector.

Pros

“This product possibly saved my life and that of my family,” shared one relieved buyer. “I decided to replace the ones I had fitted several years ago; two weeks later and at 4am, it started to go off near my boiler room. After an army of plumbers came in, it was discovered that there was a CO leak from my old boiler was not persistent so it was not at a level to trigger my old alarm. It was explained that the problem was progressive and would have gotten worse, so the early warning gave me the opportunity to resolve the problem before it got to a point where it could have caused it. actual physical harm or possibly much worse.”

“We have this to take with us to Cozumel,” shared one experienced jetsetter. “It was very light and easy to pack. I highly recommend taking one when traveling abroad. I don’t think you can ever be too safe.”

“My last one needed to be replaced after it started beeping due to age,” explained one repeat buyer. “Luckily it was the same brand so this new detector went back to the same backplate, no need to install the new one. Easy as pie. CO detectors are essential for those using fossil fuel utilities including furnace, boiler, water heater or stove, are a great option.

Cons

“One downside is that it doesn’t have a screen,” wrote one otherwise, grateful reviewer“So at first I was hesitant as to whether it was actually beeping due to CO detection or low battery. … This product literally saved my life and the lives of my two children! We had a carbon monoxide leak in our house coming from our backup generator, and when the fire department arrived and did tests, they said the generator leak levels in our attic were extremely dangerously high. I can’t explain in words how grateful I am for this product. quality.

“Unmissable!” exclaimed one ultimate fan. “I like that you can plug it into the wall or leave it on a different surface.” Your only note? “I wish there was a plug-in option.” (Psst: I have this too plugin template at my house, although it’s less travel-friendly.)
