What’s so special about this drone?
The X1 takes off from the outstretched palm and returns to land when finished. You choose a flight mode – hover, follow, zoom, orbit, etc. – just by pressing a button on the drone itself; no phone or app required. This unparalleled simplicity is one of the reasons I love the X1 so much.
But the secret ingredient really is in these selfie stunts. Let it take off in follow mode, for example, then turn around and start walking that scenic trail or biking that mountain trail. It will stay with you at a set distance, recording clear 1080p video at all times. Or stay still and let it capture flying or orbiting video that shows what’s around you.
You can even record a Sorkin-style “walk and talk” video, setting the X1 to fly in front of you or alongside you. The app can record audio and remove sound from the drone’s propellers.
Oh, and when you’re done flying, the X1 can fold in half. It can literally fit in a pocket (albeit a somewhat generous one).

What’s so special about this deal?
As much as I love what the X1 can do, the $429 starting price has always seemed quite high to me. After all, this is a small plastic drone, with very limited storage space.
But $309? This is much more palatable. I recommend splurging on the Combo to get that extra battery, as each only lasts about 10 minutes of flying time. And the charger is an added convenience, for sure.
I’ve taken the X1 on several trips and used it to capture amazing videos. That’s it then Easy to use, hassle free from start to finish, I just loved it.
