Like many people, when I was younger, I didn’t prioritize using sunscreen. I visited tanning beds, got burned often, and even got blisters a few times. Now in my early 30s, I use SPF and opt for self-tanner. But earlier this summer, my dermatologist still found a small cancerous spot, Basal cell carcinoma, on my hairline. While you are surprisingly common, I was disappointed and upset to have a new, long-lasting scar. My experience left me obsessed with trying new sunscreens, and I never leave the house without especially protecting my face and scalp. Yes, sunscreens like Sun Bum Scalp and Hair Mist They are a thing and more necessary than you might think.

“The scalp is one of the most sensitive areas of the body to sunburn and an area where skin cancer can develop over time,” he said. Jason Miller, board-certified dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group in New Jersey. “Those with thinner hair or bald patches are at greater risk and would benefit most from sunscreen (or protective clothing such as hats).”

If hair loss concerns you, protecting your scalp with SPF is crucial. Scalp sunburn not only causes irritating flaking while healing, but it can also damage follicles and affect overall hair health. Dr. Miller says the “health of your hair is related [the] overall health of your scalp, which can be affected by severe or multiple sunburns.” Just another reason to take care of your head!

If you don’t like hats, to protect your scalp, you can apply regular sunscreen – especially on the hair parts. But I personally love a lightweight, scalp-specific spray like Sun Bum Scalp Sunscreen and Hair Mist. It doesn’t leave your hair too oily or weighed down. Just spray it around your scalp and around your hairline.

The mist has SPF 30 to protect against UVA and UVB rays to prevent scalp burns and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes so you can use it in the pool or sea. In addition to protecting, it has nourishing benefits for your hair: it contains seaweed and seaweed to keep your hair from drying out, and the SPF can also keep your color from fading in the sun (if you dye it).

As an added bonus, it smells amazing. Like all Sun Bum products, this mist smells like a mix of coconut, saltwater, and fruity cocktails—basically, a tropical beach vacation.

Amazon shoppers have good things to say about it, too. “I have super fine hair and every time I’m in the sun my scalp burns. It’s inevitable. Not anymore!” he said a happy buyer. “It sprays on easily, smells great and doesn’t make my hair too greasy. It also kept my scalp from burning during a four-day trip to the beach. My best friend who was with me also used it, he also has fine hair and didn’t suffer either sunburn on the scalp.”

One father shared that they even use it on young children. “When having babies who have little to no hair or who hate wearing sun hats, this is for you!” they wrote. “It applies very easily and keeps the scalp well protected. No sunburn here! Plus, the perfume smells great, it makes you feel like you’re somewhere tropical.”

So if you’re leaving the house soon and putting sunscreen on your face, be sure to use it on your scalp. To give this fog give it a try – you can get it on Amazon and with Prime, shipped to you quickly. Trust me, you’ll be glad you started protecting yourself sooner or later.
