DRIVERS are amazed that their vehicles can park themselves in the tightest of spaces – just press a button.
It can even be accessed via a mobile app so the car can unpark itself.

If you’re stuck in a tight space, someone parked too close to the driver’s door, or you’re afraid to parallel park, Hyundai has found the ultimate solution.
The automaker’s Remote Start Parking Assist feature uses the many sensors and cameras equipped in modern Hyundais to park in the tightest spots.
As long as the vehicle is connected to the automaker’s companion app via Bluetooth, the driver can have the vehicle park remotely.
Or, if someone has parked too close to the driver’s door, it can be used to reverse the car and allow the driver to enter as well.
“Remote Smart Parking Assist is an innovative feature that helps drivers park their Hyundai in tight spaces without having to risk damage to the vehicle and/or the safety of passengers,” he writes. Vern Eide Hyundai in Sioux City.
“Hyundai’s Smart Remote Parking Assist feature allows you to move your vehicle forward and backward while remaining outside your Hyundai, using the buttons on the Smart Key to control it.”
To park the Hyundai, only minimal effort is required from the driver.
The first tip the dealership mentions is to always be 13 feet away from the vehicle, and that the vehicle can travel up to 23 feet while controlling it through the app.
When a driver finds a suitable parking space, they simply place the vehicle they wish to park and place it in “Park”.
From inside the vehicle, the driver can press “Smart Park” on the center console.
From the outside, the feature can be accessed through the companion app.
With Smart Key, the driver can move the vehicle forward and backward, and the car will do the rest.
“Not only will remote movement (forward or backward) stop if the system identifies an object in its path, but it can also automatically steer the vehicle to avoid detected obstacles,” the website continues.
At the time of publication, only four vehicles come standard with the parking assist feature.
However, as Hyundai’s lineup grows, the number of vehicles with this feature also grows.
Hyundai drivers at the automaker YouTube video instructing owners on how to use the feature, and many have mixed feelings.
One driver said he suspects he will use the feature every day.
How the parking assistant works
Hyundai Vern Eide of Sioux City says Remote Start Smart Parking Assist can be accessed quickly and easily.
- Park your vehicle in front of the space where you want to park.
- Place the vehicle in parking.
- Press the Smart Park button on the center console.
- Instructions will appear on the digital gauge cluster advising you to use the Smart Key to move the vehicle forward and backward.
- Get out of your SUV or car and get into a safe position no more than 4 meters from the vehicle.
- Press and hold the forward or rewind button on the smart key. Note: The vehicle will travel up to 23 feet while holding down the button.

“A lot of people say this is a waste, but I think I’ll use it every day,” they wrote.
“The doors of my old car were all damaged because of hitting the other vehicle in my garage (2 car garage). Especially the back door because of my children. With this feature, I will reverse the car before everyone gets in and park after everyone has left to avoid this.”
Another felt that the need for driver intervention to move forward or backward made it a useless resource.
“Ok. I thought I could just press a button and it would do everything,” the comment said.
“It feels like you’re driving a huge Hot Wheels car that moves back and forth.”
Someone noted that it would be a useful feature for older drivers.
“This feature would be great for elderly drivers to avoid hitting others cars“, they wrote.
