DRIVERS in one US state have collectively complained about malfunctioning traffic lights in a busy central city area.

Others have reported that a red light lasts for several minutes, while a green light lasts only a few seconds.

New Jersey drivers turned to the Internet after multiple traffic lights malfunctioned in a popular area, resulting in traffic being backed up for an irretrievably long time.

A traffic light at Black Horse Pike and McKee Avenue in Mays Landing, New Jersey gained Internet fame after a rant was posted.

“This is where fast traffic goes to die,” wrote Chris Coleman for Cat Country 107.3 in December 2021.

“Morning, noon and night, winter or summer. You sit there. Sometimes for several light cycles. Are you heading west during the evening rush hour? You sit there for an eternity. One afternoon Saturday in the summer? You sit there for an eternity.

Not only do red light cycles last several minutes, but green light cycles only last a few seconds.

“If you’ve ever left a movie theater or been on McKee Avenue, you know that the green light for you only lasts eight seconds,” he continued.

In another post by Coleman, just six days earlier, another red Mays Landing light fell victim to an online rant.

“All I want for Christmas is for someone to fix the red light at Black Horse Pike and Leipzig Avenue in Mays Landing,” he said. he wrote.

At the busy intersection, Coleman described a nightmare scenario for drivers.

Most people would never assume that a red light would never turn green.

Drivers are realizing there is an easy way to know exactly how long a yellow light will last on each road.

But at that particular intersection, that’s exactly what happened to him.

“If you are on Leipzig Avenue waiting at the traffic light and in the right lane waiting to turn or go straight to the mall towards Acme or Walmart, the light will never turn green,” his article said.

“Never. If a dozen cars are waiting there, the traffic light will never change.”

After a few rounds with the problematic traffic light, Coleman suddenly realized what was needed for the traffic light to change.

“Either someone has to be in the other lane for the light to turn green or (and I don’t recommend doing what I do) I go out and press the crosswalk button to make the light change.”

To make matters worse, traffic lights also present problems for drivers late at night, even when there is no cross traffic.

He wrote that drivers he spoke to said the light never turns green, even when they are the only car waiting to turn.

As a result, many drivers resort to making an illegal turn against a red light.

How to report a faulty traffic light

Reporting a broken or malfunctioning traffic light to NJDOT can be done online

To file a report online with NJDOT, the state encourages people to complete the process on the department’s website official website. The report can be used for other issues that pose a risk to people, such as potholes, tall grass or maintenance issues on state highways.

Highway maintenance issues can be reported using a map on the web page to help workers respond quickly and accurately.

Deer carcasses, graffiti, road debris, sign issues and guardrail issues can also be reported using the form.

Later in the post, he wrote that he reported the fault light to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), but the light had not been fixed at the time of publication.

In 2022, Coleman used the internet to post about another harrowing driving scenario in the Garden State.

“Have you tried turning around on Black Horse Pike lately?” he he wrote for WPG Talk Radio.

“For the last 100 years you could turn around here – but a few weeks ago when they ‘modernised’ the intersection, now you can’t.”

According to Coleman, it was allowed to turn around at that intersection as long as it was safe to do so, but changes made by the city made it nearly impossible to enter the mall.

At the next traffic light, many drivers – including Coleman – were unable to turn around to enter the mall heading in the opposite direction.

Coleman noted that four intersections after Black Horse Pike did not allow left turns, except one: the dreaded McKee Avenue intersection.

“Why do we make it so hard to turn around?!” he raged.

“So where can you turn around? McKee Avenue! Probably at one of the worst traffic lights in all of South Jersey.”
