A MAJOR US airport has increased its parking fees for the first time in 15 years, starting this summer.
Officials at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport announced Wednesday that parking prices will increase starting July 1, 2024.
Fees will be increased by more than 30% for all parking at the region’s busiest airport, including daily parking and long-term parking.
Long-term parking at BWI Airport will increase from the current rate of $8 to $11 per day.
Express parking is currently $10 and will cost $14 per day.
Daily garage parking, which costs $12, will be increased to $16 per day.
Hourly parking ranges from $22 to $30 per day.
Parking in the BWI Train Station garage costs $9 and will cost $12 per day starting in July.
Revenue generated from the new parking fees will fund improvements to the airport’s parking system.
Improvements include a new hourly garage guidance system to help customers locate available parking spaces.

BWI Airport parking will also have lighting improvements installed along the terminal road system and an airport parking reservation system is also in the works.
The $8 per day increase in the hourly garage fee is partly intended to free up spaces for drivers who park short-term.
The hourly garage is increasingly crowded, airport spokesman Jonathan Dean told the local news outlet. The Flag of Baltimoreespecially on peak weekends.
“We hope to transfer some of the patrons who park at the Hourly Garage for several days to other airport parking facilities,” Dean said.
“To help free up some spaces for those individuals who use the Hourly Garage to drop off or pick up travelers.”

There are different areas to park at BWI Airport and all spaces will have rate increases starting July 1, 2024.
- BWI has around 25,000 vacancies located:
- In long-term parking lots
- In express lots
- In the daily garages
- And in hourly garages.
- Another 3,187 public spaces are in the BWI Railway Station garage
- There is a free shuttle service to the airport terminals offered at the BWI Train Station garage.
- Long-term parking: US$11 per day.
- Express parking: US$14 per day.
- Daily Garage: $16 per day.
- Hourly garage: $30 per day.
- BWI train station garage: $12 per day.
