Scarborough, Ontario resident Andy Chawathe found nearly three feet of snow at the end of his driveway in 2017, according to TVC News.

In late December 2017, the Toronto neighborhood experienced several days of snowstorms, according to the Canadian government.

Between December 20 and 25 of that year, the city saw 5.4 centimeters of snow.

His house was on the corner of two streets, making it a convenient place for plow trucks to dump the blasts.

He realized the discovery days after traveling over Christmas.

“Because it’s a corner house, it’s convenient for them to just dump the snow here,” Chawathe told the news station at the time.

“I can’t come in, so [my car] It’s been parked on the street for the last few days.”

Parking in snowy lanes leaves drivers susceptible to $200 fines, according to from Toronto road laws.

Chawathe moved into the house in 2013, according to the station.

My neighbor kept blocking my garage – I wrote a warning but he kept doing it, now I’m calling for reinforcements

Piles of snow lined up outside his garage every year.

The driver was nervous about the impact of the snow during a possible emergency.

“I also see it as a safety issue,” he told the station.

“Do you think an ambulance or any other emergency service would be able to access the property?”

Motorists who have an insurmountable amount of snow at the foot of their driveway should request another public plow through 311, according to the city website.

Chawathe said he called the city’s non-emergency line to resolve the issue but did not receive a response in time.

Are you covered by law for parking on public streets?

Parking on public streets is generally legal, even in front of someone’s home, experts say.

Unless the home is in an HOA subdivision, an apartment complex with assigned spaces, or there are laws against parking during certain days or times, it is not illegal to park a vehicle in front of someone’s home on a public street.

“Generally speaking, an individual citizen does not ‘own’ or have any continuing exclusive right to use a parking space on a public street,” he wrote Nolo Legal.

“These spaces are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.”

Most states have rules against vehicles parking in the same location for 72 hours, or blocking fire hydrants, driveways, and driveways, as a vehicle parked in these spaces presents a safety risk.

Neighbors in the area were also restless in the years following Chawathe’s troubles.

Several cities near Toronto have reported a massive increase in physical confrontations between residents and snowplow operators, according to National Post.

In early 2023, residents were rocked by several severe snowstorms, dumping several inches of precipitation on the suburbs.

“Snow removal crews and operators have experienced increasing harassment and violence – including verbal and physical abuse, threats and unacceptable behavior from a number of residents concerned about snow removal operations,” said Mississauga spokeswoman Helen Noehammer. to publication.

“Fortunately, no one was injured during these incidents.”
