Drivers are encouraged to purchase a recently discontinued hot hatch that is good value for money but is also ‘great for everyday use’

A CAR expert has urged drivers to look for an attractive hatchback that is also great value for money.

YouTube Star Johnny Brighton, known for his videos detailing exciting engines that can be purchased for reduced prices on his channel Cars with JBrecently picked out a selection of super-fast hatchbacks – and there’s one that really stands out.

The engine in question is the recently canceled Hyundai i30 N – which is a surprisingly quick hot hatch and also a great daily runner.

In fact, Jonny said: “It’s faster than most [other hot hatches] and it’s more useful than most from a day-to-day perspective too, and is probably the best value for money.”

Jonny explained that Hyundai chose to cancel the i30 N along with the equivalent i20 model earlier this year – not because it underperformed in sales, but because Hyundai decided to end its performance brand internal combustion engine program in favor of committing to “zero exhaust emissions form its high-performance cars.

In practice, this means a transition to fully electric engines, which the Korean company intends to carry out in the next decade.

This discontinued pocket rocket, which Sun Motors supremo Rob Gill tested in 2017 – commenting at the time that it was “faster, stronger and cheaper than the VW Golf GTI” – features a 2-liter turbocharged engine capable of 276 hp, which will take you from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Jonny added: “The only thing I think it’s disappointing compared to other cars is the lack of more aggressive styling, considering it’s actually quite quick for a front-wheel drive hot hatch.”

However, he goes on to say that the little car isn’t “ugly” – adding that it was designed by the same man who worked for BMW’s famous M division.

Compared to other near-new hot hatches, the i30 N can be had second-hand at a reasonable price – with at least £18,000 being enough to put you behind the wheel of one.

From the looks of it, hot hatches are a hot property at the moment, as another motoring guru recently picked up a Renault model dubbed the “future classic” – and it could be at a used car dealership near you for less than £8,000.
