The ultra-rare 1953 Bentley commissioned by 007 author Ian Fleming and left to gather dust is for sale for an exorbitant sum – The US Sun

A custom 1953 Bentley commissioned for James Bond creator Ian Fleming could be yours – but for a hefty sum.

Images from auction house Gullwing Motor Cars show the stunning white 1953 Bentley R-Type preparing to go up for sale.

Currently covered in a thick layer of dust, this classic car is ready to shine again in the hands of a potential new owner.

And if you boast the wealth required to purchase this automotive beauty, it will set you back a staggering £1.1 million.

The vehicle has Coachwork by HJ Mulliner, an exceptional provenance with links to the creator of James Bond.

Between late 1952 and early 1953, Fleming ordered a new Bentley R-Type Continental on behalf of his dear friend from the British Security Service Ivar Bryce, who is said to have inspired the Bond character Felix Leiter.

Equipped with the original California Black-Plate car interior and a matching numbers engine, the engine is one of only 41 left-hand drive examples produced.

Winner of the Pebble Beach class in 1971, it is desirably equipped with left-hand drive, manual gearbox and lightweight seats.

Despite its age, the Bentley is described as “mechanically sound” and “driving well” in the Gullwing Motor Cars listing.

The listing says: “This 1953 Bentley R-Type Continental l Fastback LHD by HJ Mulliner is an undisputed icon of British motoring and one of the greatest Bentley models of all time.

“Built in extremely limited numbers, these large, high-performance touring cars attracted an elite clientele that included royalty, celebrities and captains of industry.

“This car, BC10LB, is certainly no exception, as Ian Fleming, creator of the James Bond series, commissioned this Bentley for his friend and collaborator Ivar Bryce.”

“Originally finished in Deep Gray and specified as a left-hand drive, manual gearbox car with fenders and lightweight seats, the Bryces R-Type Continental was equipped with bespoke features such as fitted luggage and a racehorse mascot .

“This significant discovery by Bentley represents an extremely exciting unique opportunity that should not be missed.”

It turns out that a classic Aston Martin made famous by the James Bond film series is also expected to attract a large sum at auction.

A rare 1964 DB5 is an iconic grand tourer built by the British manufacturer and designed by Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria.

Last month, a set of four iconic engines made famous by 007 sold for more than £1 million each.

The model is one of the most desired classic cars of all time after its debut on the big screen.
