Drivers who installed software designed to fix battery problems before January 1, 2024 are eligible to receive payment, documents filed in a Michigan court revealed.

Meanwhile, anyone who sold their vehicle, terminated their lease or received a new battery will be entitled to at least $700.

“GM, LG Energy Solution and LG Electronics have agreed to a settlement with plaintiffs to resolve class action litigation related to the Bolt EV battery recall,” GM said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

“As a result, Bolt owners who received a battery replacement or who installed the latest advanced diagnostic software may be eligible for compensation.”

General Motors began recalling its Bolt EVs after multiple reports that LG-brand batteries were catching fire — costing the company just under $2 billion.

US Sun has reached out to General Motors and LG for comment.

It turns out that Apple users may be eligible for a one-time payment if they own or have owned an Apple iPhone 7 or 7 Plus between September 16, 2016 and January 3, 2023.

However, time is running out for those who are eligible to submit a claim.

There are some important dates that students should know.

The deadline to file a complaint, contest the settlement, or opt out of the settlement is June 3, 2024.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

Meanwhile, thousands of Americans could be in line to receive a share of a $384 million settlement.

More than 190,000 will benefit, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The settlement follows a lawsuit that alleged Think Finance tricked Americans into repaying loans they didn’t owe.

Think Finance was dissolved in 2019 after filing for bankruptcy.

The US Sun also reported how Apple customers will be able to pocket a $349 payment.
