A major brand has revealed a “one-of-a-kind” hypercar with a top speed of 430 km/h, paying homage to an iconic model – with a hidden meaning in the paintwork.
The exclusive Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is an extravagant bee-like yellow and black and characteristics decals showing the number 55.
This is to pay homage to the colors of the first of its kind – the Type 55 – introduced in the early 1930s.
The car’s owner worked with the brand’s ‘Sur Mesure’ customization department to create the finish as a way to “visually break up the hypersports car’s expansive surfaces.”
Only 38 Type 55s were built, making it one of the rarest cars in existence.
The faded “55” pattern over the lights and arches was handcrafted in a “long and complex process.”
Inside the car there are 55 more motifs and inscriptions.
“Even 100 years after his time, we remain totally linked to Jean [Bugatti] and their designs,” said Jascha Straub, manager at Sur Mesure.
The Type 55 Super Sport boasted a 2.3-liter inline eight-cylinder engine derived from the Type 51 racer.
However, it was distinguished by the two-seater roadster body.
“As Bugatti’s first Super Sport, the Type 55 not only marked the foundation of a new category, but also served as the model for all modern Super Sport models, redefining grand touring – perfectly combining comfort with a remarkable top speed of 180 km. . /h”, according to the brand’s website.
“However, Jean Bugatti’s ingenuity extended beyond engineering – introducing the then-innovative duotone paint scheme that would ultimately inspire Bugatti’s iconic contemporary A/B color split.
“And today, the most revered Type 55 model uses the timeless combination of black and yellow.”
He adds: “Its scarcity only increases its status as a coveted collector’s piece.
“His legacy as a pioneer of the road-going Grand Prix car has captured the imagination of a Chiron Super Sport customer and the Sur Mesure team.”
