A WESTERN state is moving five “simple tasks” to be online-only to help speed up office visits.

The agency said that 90% of its services can be started or completed on cell phones or tablets.

To help reduce office visits, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is moving five simple driver processes to be online only.

The DMV noted that moving more tasks online could eliminate 200,000 office visits per year, giving those looking to perform more complicated tasks more time with an employee.

“The DMV is becoming a mobile operation, and simple renewals are easy, self-help transactions that don’t require an office visit,” DMV Director Steve Gordon told FOX affiliate KTXL.

“…We’ve also reduced the time it takes to receive vehicle stickers and driver’s licenses. In most cases, you’ll receive your item in less than two weeks.”

Before arriving at the office, the agency also encourages drivers to complete various services by mail.

AAA members can also perform simple tasks, such as renewing their vehicle registration, by visiting an office.

Several DMV kiosks are located throughout the state at several grocery store chains to perform simple tasks for non-AAA members.

“As technology evolves, our clients’ expectations and preferences change,” reads the agency’s statement. website.

“Today’s customers expect instant service and information. We continue to enhance our digital service channels, which will improve our customer self-service options.

“This will reduce wait times, allowing our team members to be more customer-focused when completing more complex tasks.”

‘I have a $40,000 purchase that’s worthless,’ cries driver whose new car is a ‘lawn decoration’ thanks to DMV debacle – title never arrived

The digitalization efforts are part of the DMV’s mission to bring more complicated services fully online by 2026, with the promise of improving driver safety.

“As we transition to more modern and intuitive platforms to meet our customers’ needs, we must also protect their information,” the website continues.

“DMV continues to evolve its strategic approach to data and data governance, improving our privacy and security practices as we adopt new technologies.”

Until June 3, five services will no longer be able to be processed at a Detran location.

These are the services that are moving to be online only:

  1. Renewal of vehicle registration that has not expired. Late registration must be made at the secretariat.
  2. Driver’s license renewals. Getting a Real ID or taking a new photo will require an office visit.
  3. Requests for copies of vehicle registration records showing ownership history.
  4. Requests for copies of driver’s license records showing the driver’s history.
  5. Replace a lost or stolen ID or driver’s license.

How to Prepare for the DMV

Here are some ways to streamline your DMV experience:

  1. Check your state’s DMV website to see if the task can be done entirely online. Many processes can now be done online, such as renewing a vehicle registration or changing an address. Otherwise, several processes can be started online and completed in person, such as renewing a driver’s license.
  2. Schedule an appointment. While walk-ins are available at all locations, scheduling an appointment can help reduce frustrating wait times.
  3. Check the DMV website to ensure you have all the necessary forms for the task.
  4. Arrive early. Since many people prefer to try to complete simple tasks on their lunch breaks or days off, arriving early may mean you are just one of a few.
  5. Eat before you go or bring a snack. As the waiting time can exceed expectations, bring some kind of sustenance.
  6. Be positive. The process is temporary.

Other services such as vehicle title replacement, disabled parking tag and license plates can be done online.

Changing your address can also be done online.

Even more complicated processes, like applying for a Real ID, can be started and completed largely online.

A DMV employee would finalize the application by verifying supporting documents and taking a photo at a DMV location.
