A HIGH-speed chase vehicle has been revealed as police try to harness the benefits of electric driving.
Chevy is launching the Blazer EV Police Pursuit Vehicle — and the US Sun sat in the nimble hunter at the Advanced Clean Tech Expo in May.

Chevy has reintroduced the mid-size passenger Blazer to American roads in 2023 as an electric SUV.
The production vehicle is fast and highly agile.
Now the company is striving to supply a series of electric SUVs to US police.
Electric vehicles typically have instantaneous delivery of torque from their engines, allowing for faster acceleration than gasoline-powered cars.
Electric batteries designed with GM’s Ultium stacked structure also provide vehicles with better drivability.
The heavy batteries are evenly distributed across the bottom of the vehicle.
A lower center of gravity allows the SUV to corner tighter than its gas counterparts.
Chevy says the Blazer pursuit vehicle can reach a top speed of 130 mph.
The police-focused Blazer has dozens of police customizations.
Double-bolstered front-row seats offer officers more comfort when seated with a holster, Chevy representatives told The US Sun.
Chevy said several law enforcement officers tested the vehicle in California and Michigan.
Officers told Chevy the seats were “comfortable.” A driver over 6 feet tall told the company that the seat was the most accessible he had found in a police car.
Chevy also reworks the vehicle’s center console, allowing agencies to implement their own technology in the front of the cabin.
The changes to the interior extend to the second row, with a partition and extra legroom for rear seat passengers.
Electric vehicles do not require the transmission tunnel commonly found in gasoline cars, which makes an impact on the floor in the middle of the car’s second row.
Chevy Blazer EV Police Pursuit Specs

- 498 horsepower
- Range over 250 miles
- 190 kW charging – can provide 70 miles of range in 10 minutes
- Two versions – one with carpet flooring and the other with vinyl
- Added rear legroom – better seating configurations for officers carrying holsters
Without the tunnel, Chevy said police can use the back seat for taller passengers.
The police-focused changes extend to the exterior of the SUV.
The front is completed with an aggressive black bumper to protect the vehicle’s exoskeleton.
Chevy also blacked out the front and rear badging.
The robust Brembo brakes also allow the SUV to stop faster than production models.
Each pursuit vehicle is equipped with a custom paint job. Both versions of the upcoming car that US Sun saw at the ACT Expo and the previous New York Auto Show featured a black and white exterior.
The police truck will be produced in the same Mexican factory as the passenger SUV.
Chevy said electrified versions of police vehicles have an important health-based use case.
Police vehicles spend most of their time stationary – gas versions of the car continually expel toxic gases through their exhaust pipes.
