Nvidia’s CEO said every car on the road will be capable of driving autonomously and shared which company he believes is miles ahead.

Jensen Huang spoke openly about the future of cars, saying most will be able to drive themselves.

“Tesla is way ahead in autonomous driving cars“, he said in an interview with Yahoo Finance.

“One of the things that’s really revolutionary about version 12 of Tesla’s fully autonomous driving is that it’s an end-to-end generative model.

“It learns by watching videos – surround video – and it learns how to drive end-to-end and, using generative AI, predict the path and how to understand and drive the car. So the technology is really revolutionary and the work that [Tesla’s] doing it is incredible.”

TeslaThe latest full-steering system is currently in beta and was released in free 30-day trials for new owners earlier this year.

FSD is available for $99 per month or $8,000 upfront.

Tesla reported last month that FSD has had more than 1.3 billion cumulative miles driven since it was first revealed in March 2021.

FSD is considered a Level 2 autonomous system, which requires supervised use.

However, it has been recalled and subjected to government investigations into what it can do.

Nvidia reported automotive revenue of $329 million in the first quarter, a small slice of the $22.6 billion in its data business.

Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said she expects automotive to be the “largest vertical within [the] Data Center [segment] this year” in a company earnings call.

The majority of the company’s data center revenue came from Internet consumer customers.

Huang added that he believes that one day “every car” will have some type of autonomous capability.

“That technology is very similar to technology of great language modelsbut it just requires a huge training center,” he said, referring to TeslaFSD system.

“And the reason for that is because there are videos, the video data rate, the amount of video data is very, very high.”

Nvidia said it helped Tesla expand its FSD training to help the company’s ability to process this amount of data.

Along with Tesla, NvidiaThe company’s other customers include Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo and Hyundai.

US Sun has reached out to Nvidia for comment.

How do autonomous cars work?

Self-driving cars use sensors, algorithms, machine learning systems and powerful processors to function

They can create and maintain a map of the area around you based on various sensors situated in different parts of the car.

Radar sensors are used to track the positions of other cars.

Video cameras can detect traffic lights, read traffic signs, track other cars and watch pedestrians.

Sophisticated software processes all this information and plots the path the car should follow, sending instructions to the car’s actuators, which control acceleration, braking and steering.

Coded rules and object recognition help the software follow traffic rules and avoid obstacles.
