Toyota President speaks out after company cheated in safety tests and confirms that three models stopped production

TOYOTA CEO Akiyo Toyoda has apologized to consumers after the company was caught cheating on safety certification tests in Japan.

The company admitted that it cheated on certification tests for seven models and stopped production of three popular cars.

Neither vehicle is for sale in the American market.

“We sincerely apologize,” Toyoda said in a statement.

“We are not a perfect company. But if we see something wrong, we’ll take a step back and keep trying to fix it.”

Toyota has been caught using outdated or inadequate crash test data before selling Japanese vehicle models.

The company also said it did not adequately test airbag inflation standards and rear seat safety in accordance with Japanese regulations.

Toyota was not alone. Mazda and Honda also recently admitted wrongdoing after the Japanese government investigated safety tests at their three main automakers.

Similarly, Honda and Mazda’s test failures only affected cars built for the Japanese market.
