A TOW truck driver made an honest mistake while on the job and accidentally towed three cars – the accident made headlines.

Her boss felt the best call to action was to let her go – but it was for the best.

Two years ago, Metro Towing and Impounds in Phoenix, Arizona, made headlines after a driver, Tracy, entered into her GPS an inaccurate address for a new property in the company’s rotation.

As a result, three cars were mistakenly towed – causing panic among owners who thought their vehicles had been stolen.

After calls from disgruntled drivers, Dominick Bova, owner of the towing company, realized what had happened.

“When she put it in the GPS, it took her to 38th Street, but the property we picked up was on 38th Avenue,” Bova told the ABC affiliate. KNXV-TV.

In an exclusive interview with The US Sun, Bova confirmed that Tracy, whose last name was withheld for privacy reasons, was fired to ensure this mistake never happens again.

To calm the waters, Bova returned the three vehicles free of charge, but couldn’t help but feel devastated by the difficult decision.

According to him, Tracy’s skills and demeanor made her an asset to his team.

“I was sad because she was one of my best drivers,” he said.

“But she was driving tired and I would rather have someone tell me she wasn’t able to do a job and needed a break than drive drowsy, because that’s how mistakes like that are made. So I let her go.”

According to Bova, Tracy was an excellent tow truck driver and hard worker, and letting her go was one of the hardest decisions he made for the business.

I called the police when my car disappeared outside my door – the towing company wanted to charge me, but it was their mistake

“I actually hated letting her go,” he continued.

“She’s so sweet. A great tow driver too.”

However, it may have been beneficial for Tracy, Bova said, as the grass was greener on the other side.

Another Phoenix towing company was fortunate to recruit Tracy to their team.

That’s where she met her husband, Bova said.

What to do if your car is towed

Unfairly or not, recovering a towed vehicle can be a hassle.

If your vehicle is towed after parking in a “No Parking” zone or other legitimate reason, there are some steps you can take to get it back.

Steps to follow when your car is towed:

  • Try to find out why your car was towed. Haven’t you seen a “No Parking” sign? Did you miss your car payment? Have you returned to a lot where there were unpaid citations? Finding the reason may narrow down the phone numbers to dial.
  • Locate the vehicle. Most states, cities, or counties require towing companies to leave some type of contact information via a posted or mailed sign.
  • Recovery dates and times depend on the company that towed the vehicle, but these times will be posted on the website or may be provided by a representative.
  • Pay the fees. Be careful to be as quick as possible, as some towing yards may charge daily storage fees.

If you believe your vehicle was improperly towed, you can dispute the action by following these steps:

  • Be quick – many states have a small window of time in which it is acceptable to file a claim against a company that improperly towed your vehicle.
  • Gather supporting documents: photos, emails, receipts, police reports, and witness statements, if applicable. The more evidence, the better.
  • Familiarize yourself with local laws, as laws for towing companies vary by state.
  • Try talking to the towing company. Sometimes it may have been a simple oversight and the matter can be resolved quickly.
  • Contact your local Justice of the Peace as they may have more information or resources to help. They are often used for towing cases.
  • Speak to a lawyer. Many lawyers offer free consultations and, depending on the case, it may be worth calling on a lawyer.

“She was picked up by another towing company and drove with them for a while,” Bova said.

“And it worked out for her because she ended up marrying the owner and everything. I’m glad she’s happy.”

Two years later, Bova still feels terrible about letting Tracy go.

As sad as his business is, he is happy to see an old friend thriving.

“It’s a really cute story, really,” Bova said.

The US Sun reached out to Tracy for more details and an update.
