AN OWNER has had enough after being repeatedly blocked from his driveway – and then being asked to pay the offender’s parking fine.

The man said the delays made him late picking up his children from school and continued despite his polite requests to move the illegally parked vehicle.

He shared his story and asked for advice on whether he should pay the fine on Reddit.

“AITA for calling parking enforcement on my neighbor’s contractor?” user titled emanon256 wire at the end of last year.

The owner further explained that the car belonged to a contractor hired by his neighbor and that he had been in contact with the two about the parking issue.

“Two weeks ago, my neighbor’s contractor parked on the street blocking my driveway. I found him and asked him to move out,” the user said.

He said the contractor asked him for 30 minutes, to which the owner responded that he could give him a maximum of 10 minutes before he had to leave to pick up his children.

Although the contractor agreed to 10 minutes, he was “upset” and did not move the parked car for 15 minutes.

The delay caused the Redditor to be late picking up their children.

“I arrived at school 2 minutes after pickup and my daughter was waiting The office. When I came back he was blocking my garage again, I couldn’t find him.”

The user’s neighbor was finally able to locate the contractor, who moved his car an hour later.

ATTACKS #1, #2 and #3

Emanon256 claims that the parking fiasco was repeated just a few days later.

‘I can’t believe it,’ says furious housewife sentenced to pay $1,500 in parking fines – she doesn’t even own the car

“Early last week, he parked blocking my driveway again, thankfully, while I was out.”

“I parked on the street and couldn’t find him, so I texted the neighbor again, who tracked him down and got him to move. It still took an hour for him to move,” said the user.

But the contractor still hasn’t learned his lesson.

“Then last Friday I pulled up again and the contractor was on the roof. He said he couldn’t come down until he finished things,” said emanon256.

And this time, the situation meant the owner had to call a friend for help when he couldn’t access his own car.

“I texted my neighbor and he said he was out and the contractor wasn’t picking up. I had to get a ride with someone else to pick up my kids.”

I think I’m justified in calling parking enforcement after this has happened several times.

The contractor didn’t seem to care that there was a problem.

“The contractor was still there when I got back, so I called parking enforcement and they came and gave the contractor a ticket for blocking my driveway.”

WHO IS TO BLAME?

The owner was candid when he asked others who they thought was to blame for the parking problem – and who should pay the fine.

“The neighbor is upset and called me an idiot for calling the parking police, and since I got a ride from someone else, I should have backed out.”

“He also said his contractor is upset and wants me to pay the fine,” he said.

Why is it illegal to block a driveway?

Blocking a driveway is illegal in the United States due to limiting access to emergency care.

In addition to being reckless, blocking a driveway is a serious safety hazard, cops say.

Blocking someone’s entryway is illegal in all 50 states, with fines and penalties varying by state.

For example, blocking a driveway in San Francisco, California can net a driver a hefty $286 towing fee and a $110 fine.

This does not include food to recover the vehicle from an impound lot, which costs on average more than $600.

In an emergency, a blocked entrance can mean the difference between life and death for a patient.

“In the United States, it is illegal to block a driveway, even your own,” says Parklio’s website.

“It’s a matter of public safety: emergency services like fire trucks, ambulances or police cars need this space to enter and exit.

“An obstructed driveway can also prevent vehicles from getting out onto the road to seek emergency services.”

ON THE OWNER’S SIDE

Many fellow Redditors agreed with the owner.

“You realize that after the first time, this guy was probably parking in front of your garage on purpose, right? He was just pissed because you told him to move,” one person commented.

“You’re cooler than me. A fine is nothing. I would have had you towed,” another added.

“My answer to how long I could wait would be ‘Ask the tow truck when they get here,’” replied a third.

“Yeah, much nicer to me. If a neighbor came in early and said hey, I have to park here for a while because of this reason, I would let them. That said, there’s not much reason to block my driveway,” he suggested. a bedroom.
