In places like New York, Toronto, Singapore, Chennai, Dubai, Sydney and Christchurch, drivers who join the parking ticket protection program can recoup the cost of their parking ticket in a daily draw.

Parking Cupid, a company that shows drivers available parking spaces nearby, including garages, lots and even sidewalks, has launched this new service to try and alleviate the hassle and stress, both mental and financial, that comes with fines.

With the increasing number of parking tickets issued, Parking Cupid founder Daniel Battaglia believes this new campaign continues the company’s commitment to making parking easier for drivers across North America and beyond.

Battaglia says he recognizes the need to provide a solution for drivers who have received more and more fines in recent years due to increases.

For example, New York City has seen a sharp increase in recent years in the number of parking tickets issued each year.

Between October 2020 and September 2021, more than 4 million parking tickets were issued in the five Burroughs, according to city data.

This brought the city about $260 million in revenue.

But since then, the number of fines has increased every year.

In 2022, almost seven and a half million parking tickets were issued.

That year, New York collected more than $1 billion in fines combined for parking tickets and camera violations, not including speeding or any other type of violation.

But last year, that number skyrocketed to 21.6 million parking tickets issued in the city, with 13.3 million already issued this year, according to city data.

“We understand that parking fines can be a huge inconvenience and financial burden on drivers,” said Battaglia, also known for founding Australia

“Our goal is to make parking as stress-free as possible, and this new service is just one step towards achieving that.”

“We are constantly looking for ways to improve our platform and provide added value to our members, and we believe this service will do just that.”

He says this new service aims to not only save drivers time and effort dealing with parking tickets, but also ease the financial burden.

The service is now active and available to all paying members of the platform.

With tens of thousands of active users, the platform has become an ideal solution for drivers looking for convenient and affordable parking options.

How to spot a fake parking ticket

Thieves sometimes go to great lengths to extract money from drivers

With parking ticket scams on the rise, it’s important to know how to tell the difference between a fake ticket and a legitimate one.

Many parking enforcement agencies, like those employed by cities, will never ask people to pay their fares through apps like Venmo, PayPal or Zelle.

A QR code should always alert drivers as they often lead to fake payment sites created by scammers to access banking or personal information.

It’s also wise to pay close attention to logos, as some scammers even use fake logos close enough to a city’s official logo, fooling those who don’t look closely.

Emails or text messages about parking tickets should always be ignored, as most parking enforcement agencies will never use these means to collect a debt.

Other useful tips for spotting fake citations:

  • Do some research into the car park you are parking in, as it is legally required to post signs to inform drivers of who is enforcing the parking rules.
  • Carefully examine the citation for any flaws – misspellings, incorrect logos, links, QR codes, etc.
  • Review the contact information on the ticket. Sites belonging to cities will always end in .gov.
  • Finally, pay by card as it is easier to dispute an illegal charge. Avoid sending checks or cash for a suspicious parking ticket.
  • Check a city’s ticket database to see if you were cited by an official.
