A DRIVER has refused to pay a parking fine she received as a result of a mix-up – she is standing her ground even though rates have tripled.

Susan Gould said the situation escalated and caused her a lot of stress, local ABC News affiliate WBRZ reported.

She first received notice about the ticket in the mail in March.

But when he saw the quote from the city of New Orleans, Gould thought it was a hoax.

It didn’t take long for her to realize that this was no scam or trick.

The parking ticket started as a $30 fine before tripling in cost.

Although the fine was increased to $90, the driver said she will not pay it.

The car owner explained that the parking ticket accident caused her to make unnecessary efforts to prove the truth.

“I haven’t been to New Orleans and flown in over 30 years,” Gould explained.

“It’s really just the principle of it. I mean, if they’re doing this to me, who else are they doing this to?”

The woman has a 2014 Hyundai Tucson that she parks in the garage.

The ticket she received has the license plate number, but the color and year of the car are different.

The violation she received was issued on February 20, 2024, at approximately 9:30 am

The fine was for parking in a taxi zone on Avenida Loyola.

Gould feels someone made a mistake.

She said she’s the only one driving the car and she won’t go far.

The owner of the car specified that she only goes to the supermarket, to medical appointments and to visit close family.

“I only put 60 miles on my car the entire month of February,” she said.

The driver said she has made about a dozen calls about the ticket and is unable to resolve the issue.

The city ticket office suggested that Gould send an explanation of his situation.

When she felt she had no other options, the car owner contacted WBRZ for help in May.

Once Gould heard back from the city of New Orleans this week, she didn’t get the news she was hoping for.

The driver was informed that she was still responsible for paying the fine.

“They’re just not happy with what I’m telling them,” she said.

“I don’t know what else to say.”

While emphasizing that she was not in New Orleans on the date for which the ticket was issued, Gould explained that if she had been in NOLA that day, she would have paid the $30 ticket.

Despite the details she shared about her situation, her battle with the New Orleans box office is dragging into its fourth month.
