AN iconic Porsche from the 1980s can be yours for a bargain.

Mike Brewer of Wheeler Dealers has previously called the classic engine “one of the best designed.”

Any car enthusiast must have dreamed of cruising the streets behind the wheel of a Porsche.

But with models from the German brand costing on average between £50,000 and £90,000, the costume may be far-fetched for many.

However, there is a “fun” classic Porsche model that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

The Porsche 924 sold online for just £5,995 for the 1982 model.

Another great offer put the car on the market for just £3,500 for the 1984 version – an absolute steal.

Both engines are in good condition with 30,000 miles and 100,000 miles on them.

Once nicknamed the “Poor Man’s Porsche”, the 924 has been described as a romance between Volkswagen and Porsche.

The car was essentially designed to be VW’s flagship sports coupe.

To keep costs down, Porsche modified an existing Volkswagen/Audi engine for use in the engine.

But as fate would have it, the 924 was scrapped by Volkswagen and launched by Porsche.

BANG FOR BUCK This so-called ‘poor man’s Porsche’ really is the best sports car of all time

While the oil crisis kept buyers away from more ostentatious cars, the classic 924 offered a perfect combination of practicality and price.

The tiny 2+2 coupe boasted a 2-liter engine, topped by a four-speed Porsche transmission.

This model was the first mass-market Porsche to be offered with rear-wheel drive and front engine.

The brand’s cars have traditionally used a rear-engined configuration, particularly in the iconic 911 range.

The Cheapest Classic Porsches

Here are the underrated icons that are “incredibly cheap”:

There was a time in the ’90s when the 928 almost killed the 911, while the latter’s sales struggled amid constant design tweaks.

In the end, however, the model did not resist as much as the brand’s flagship.

The good thing about this, though, is that you can now get something widely considered a 911 rival for a fraction of the price.

High-mileage versions simply come into our budget at around £11,900, but a 928 in excellent condition will still cost just £15,000 second-hand.

Initially available only as a convertible, the 986 Boxster added a hardtop variant a few years after launch and remained in the Porsche lineup until 2004.

The model was named a “modern classic” by motoring expert James Rusell, although he admitted a preference for the newer 987 model.

And Jonny seemed to agree, saying the Boxster “gets better with time”, although some design tweaks drew the ire of “Porsche purists” when it was revealed.

They could cost as little as £3,175 “in the end”, while the £12,000 budget will still get you the improved S variant.

We couldn’t really read a list of great Porsches without at least one 911 sneaking in.

Coming from that ’90s lineup that saw consistent small changes to the design, the 996 Carrera still maintains the model’s beloved shape and is largely the same under the hood as other more popular versions.

And you can get a 1996 convertible version for around £10,450.

Not only that, but it was also the first to have an automatic gearbox as standard when it was launched in 1984.

Despite being in the shadow of its successors, this classic engine sold well and continues to be in demand thanks to its affordable price.

Mike said the easiest and cheapest way to get “that Stuggart badge” is to purchase this beloved Porsche – one of the most iconic engines of the 1980s.

Mike said, “If you can’t get a 911, if it’s too expensive, go to the next one less and you’ll go to a 944.

“And if you can’t get the 944 Turbo because they’re getting expensive now, you go for the next one less again, which is a 924.”

With its sleek, aerodynamic design and retractable headlights, the 924 is a really cool engine to buy and it certainly won’t break the bank.

It turns out that Brewer was seen excited about a much-loved classic car he spotted on the highway.

The TV star called the iconic engine “amazing” as he applauded its “beautiful” condition.

The Wheeler Dealers host also urged petrolheads to buy the little-known classic Porsche, which he says is more “affordable to own and maintain” than a 911.

Earlier this week, Mike hit the road in his retro Porsche 964 Turbo before a major modification to Poland.

Meanwhile, in a recent exclusive chat with The Sun, Mike revealed three modern classic engines that motorists can own right now that could make a useful profit in the future. future.
