A HOMEOWNER hit his neighbor for leaving a rusty old car abandoned ‘melting on the ground’ in a communal parking space.

The angry resident said the nasty engine was “bringing the place down” but he didn’t know how to get rid of it.

Sharing their fury on Reddit, they explained that resident parking is permitted on the road leading to their semi-detached property, with spaces shared with other homes in the area.

They wrote: “There are no sidewalks but spaces allocated according to the title deeds of each property and then some extra spaces for turning and visitor parking purposes.

“There is a neighbor who left a Land Rover in a vacant space more than 6 years ago.

“It’s literally melting into the ground.

It’s literally this property that’s destroying the whole place

“We have lived here for 1 year and after speaking to other residents they have been trying forever to remove the Land Rover but it has fallen on deaf ears.”

They added that the neighbor uses the space reserved for a work vehicle, while the abandoned one has a SORN registration.

And apparently this wasn’t the first time the issue had been raised, with a previous engine being left in for a long period.

The author of the post added: “This is the second time they have abandoned a vehicle.

“Apparently the last one sat rotting on the floor for more than five years before it was removed.

“The vehicle belongs to the owner [but he] ignores all correspondence.”

Motorists slam ‘Britain’s worst parking’ after cars were abandoned at busy roundabout – and say it’s a ‘miracle, no one died’

“We are all fed up and trying to make the street look nice, as all the other properties share a community vibe, we all help out on the ground.

“It’s literally this property that’s destroying the whole place.”

The owner then asked other Reddit users for legal advice on possible actions, although none have commented yet.

What can I do if there is an abandoned car on my street?

If you find an abandoned car on your street, you can report it to the local council.

This may be done if your vehicle has sustained damage or is blocking your driveway, which could be a problem for the police.

Abandoning a car is a similar offense to fly-tipping and can result in a fine of up to £2,500.

However, if the vehicle is not causing a nuisance other than looking unsightly, you can report it to the DVLA if it is on a private road.

The agency can then contact the owner and instruct them on what to do next.

However, if the car is on private land, there is relatively little that can be done unless it presents a health and safety risk, in which case the council will contact the owner.

As a general rule, councils recommend considering a car abandoned if it has been in the same location and left untouched for more than four weeks.
