The Toyota Prius has come a long, long way.

I tested the newest version of the iconic hybrid for six days. It’s much more stylish and fun to drive than previous iterations.

I’m quite familiar with Toyota’s Prius line. I owned a Prius C, a smaller city edition of the car, from 2013 to 2018.

But I can’t emphasize enough how much the 2024 Prius has changed from previous generations.

The idiotic, bulbous designs of hatchbacks and the constant, heady driver reminders about battery power and gas efficiency are now a thing of the past.

  • This story is part of a series of tests carried out by Ben Shimkus, engine reporter for The US Sun.

Instead, Toyota created a truly sporty design. It’s a classy looking car.

The hood seamlessly transitions to the windshield, giving the dashboard a dart-like appearance.

At the rear, the roofline slopes into a larger-than-expected trunk area.

The body’s side lines project toward the Prius’s rear wheels, giving the car a crouch like a cat about to pounce.

Despite the more athletic appearance, the Prius still maintains its high mpg efficiency.

Drivers are encouraged to buy a ‘very cheap’ Toyota, which is the ‘best used car’ on the market

The cheapest models of the car will get 57 mpg in the city.

Our tester, a Limited Edition priced north of $35,000, got about 52 mpg. That’s still twice the average fuel economy of other American passenger vehicles.

The vehicle’s average fuel economy was less than 25 mpg, according to the US Department of Energy.

Behind the wheel, the car maintains its new sportiness.

The gas engine and battery combine to produce just under 200 ponies that can take the car from zero to 60 mph in seven seconds.

My old Prius C used to take 12 seconds to get to 60 and had 98 horsepower.

The 2024 Prius easily reaches highway speeds.

Drivers get extremely comfortable seats, a giant infotainment system, wireless charging, physical buttons for the climate controls, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

2024 Toyot Prius Limited Review

Ben Shimkus, automotive journalist for The US Sun, tested the Prius. Here are his thoughts:

The Prius is much better than previous versions of the iconic hybrid.

And I loved the previous versions.

It is much more beautiful, capable and with a lot of technology than previous generations.

Pros:

  • Beautiful and sporty design
  • The aggressive styling continues inside with a handsome interior
  • Wireless Phone Mirroring
  • Lots of physical buttons, especially with the climate controls
  • Sportier ride than any previous model
  • Still maintains exceptional fuel economy

Cons:

  • The gauge cluster is oddly positioned
  • Sloping rear roofline makes tall passengers duck when entering
  • The Prius used to be the ideal environmental vehicle option – where is the all-electric option?

My biggest complaint with the car is the gauge cluster.

The odometer is placed a few centimeters behind the steering wheel. It’s right next to the windshield.

It gives a similar feel to other cars that choose to use heads-up projections on the front window.

However, it fits perfectly among the strengths of bifocal lenses. It is too far for myopia and too close for hyperopia.

Additionally, the sloping rear roofline presents some problems for taller passengers.

I carried a friend who is over six feet tall in the backseat during my testing period. He had to bend down to get into the car.

When he sat down, his head was close to the roof of the car.

Still, this car is exceptionally improved over previous iterations.

I would have traded in my beloved Prius C in seconds for this much improved version.

There’s a lot to love about the 2024 Prius, as long as drivers can see how fast they’re driving.
