A DRIVER with a recent injury got into a fight with his neighbor over a disturbance in the parking lot.

In a Reddit thread, the driver said neighbors exchanged handwritten notes to express their anger over the parking space.

The driver, named RV, initially posted his story and photos of the handwritten letters on Reddit, according to News week.

The posts were removed due to a classification error.

The California resident said he started using his building’s accessible parking space after foot surgery.

After reporting his injury to the DMV, the driver received a Person with a Disability red tag from the state.

The state issues red tags to drivers who are recovering from an injury.

They are allowed to use the accessible parking tags for 180 days.

RV said the accessible parking spot at his apartment complex was used infrequently, so he left his car there for an extended period of time.

Upon returning to the vehicle, the driver found a note from the building administration.

Someone complained about the RV and threatened to have the vehicle towed.

RV called the management company and verified that he had the legal right to park in the space.

But days later, the neighbor continued to escalate the rhetoric.

RV noticed a handwritten letter left under the windshield.

“This parking spot is not yours,” read the letter, first captured in the Reddit thread.

“It’s for everyone who needs it and is disabled. Your sign is fake. Move it.”

RV decided to hit back with another letter, according to Newsweek.

What to do if your car is towed

Unfairly or not, recovering a towed vehicle can be a hassle.

If your vehicle is towed after parking in a “No Parking” zone or other legitimate reason, there are some steps you can take to get it back.

Steps to follow when your car is towed:

  • Try to find out why your car was towed. Haven’t you seen a “No Parking” sign? Did you miss your car payment? Have you returned to a lot where there were unpaid citations? Finding the reason may narrow down the phone numbers to dial.
  • Locate the vehicle. Most states, cities, or counties require towing companies to leave some type of contact information via a posted or mailed sign.
  • Recovery dates and times depend on the company that towed the vehicle, but these times will be posted on the website or may be provided by a representative.
  • Pay the fees. Be careful to be as quick as possible, as some towing yards may charge per-day storage fees.

If you believe your vehicle was improperly towed, you can dispute the action by following these steps:

  • Be quick – many states have a small window of time in which it is acceptable to file a claim against a company that improperly towed your vehicle.
  • Gather supporting documents: photos, emails, receipts, police reports, and witness statements, if applicable. The more evidence, the better.
  • Familiarize yourself with local laws, as laws for towing companies vary by state.
  • Try talking to the towing company. Sometimes it may have been a simple oversight and the matter can be resolved quickly.
  • Contact your local Justice of the Peace as they may have more information or resources to help. They are often used for towing cases.
  • Speak to a lawyer. Many lawyers offer free consultations and, depending on the case, it may be worth calling on a lawyer.

He responded to the neighbor, clarifying that the red sign was a temporary DMV badge. He also said the neighbor should contact police if he wanted to try to have the vehicle towed.

RV said he hasn’t heard from his neighbor since he explained the misunderstanding.

The initial Reddit post has more than 20,000 likes.

However, the post was removed by moderators.

Reddit watchdogs said the post should not have been posted on the r/MildlyInfuriating page.

“This post has been removed because it is not mildly annoying,” the moderators said.

Instead, they suggested the driver report it on r/ExtremelyInfuritating.
