A HOMEOPER vented online about a contractor working on a neighbour’s house repeatedly blocking his driveway.

The contractor was “so busy” that it sometimes took more than an hour to remove the car.

One of the most popular subreddits on Reddit, r/AmItheA***oleuses community reaction to determine whether the original poster was wrong or not.

A recent publish detailed a homeowner’s internal battle over calling the parking police after a neighbor’s contractor blocked his driveway.

A contractor was working on a neighbor’s house and they discovered that the contractor was intentionally blocking their driveway, preventing them from leaving.

The shuttle begins with a simple request to move the vehicle.

“I found him and asked him to move out,” the post said.

“He told me he needed 30 minutes and I said I can’t wait, I have to pick up my kids from school. He asked how long I could wait and I said 10 minutes. move by 10.”

However, it took the contractor about 15 minutes to move.

This caused the owner to be late in picking up his children.

The tension between the owner and contractor did not end with this incident.

“I arrived at school 2 minutes after pickup and my daughter was waiting The office,” they wrote.

My driveway was blocked by an abandoned car for months – my neighbors tried to help get rid of it, but nothing worked

“When I came back he was blocking my driveway again, I couldn’t find him. I parked on the street and texted my neighbor. He asked him to move but he didn’t move for an hour.”

A few days later, the homeowner was running some errands – but came home to find the contractor blocking his driveway again.

They tried to look for him after parking on the street, but he was nowhere to be found, so they asked their neighbor for help again.

“I texted the neighbor again, who tracked him down and made him move out,” the Redditor wrote.

“It still took an hour for him to move.”

The drama continued a few days later when the contractor blocked her driveway once again and was nowhere to be found.

He apparently wasn’t answering his neighbor’s calls or texts, forcing the homeowner to use a friend’s ride to pick up his children from school.

This time, they were fed up with the contractor’s indifference.

“The contractor was still there when I got back, so I called parking enforcement and they came and gave the contractor a ticket for blocking my driveway,” they wrote.

What the owner of the house didn’t expect was his neighbor’s reaction.

“Neighbor is upset and called me an idiot for calling the parking police and since I got a ride from someone else I should have backed out,” the post continued.

“He also said his contractor is upset and wants me to pay the fine.”

Due to the contractor’s poor attitude, continuing to block his driveway, and hesitation in moving his car when asked, the homeowner did not feel guilty about having the ticket issued.

“Every time I asked him he would give me attitude or delay and my neighbor couldn’t get him to move either,” they concluded.

“I think I’m justified in calling parking enforcement after this has happened several times.”

Community members felt that the owners were not wrong and that they were much nicer than they should have been.

Why is it illegal to block a driveway?

Blocking a driveway is illegal in the United States due to limiting access to emergency care.

In addition to being reckless, blocking a driveway is a serious safety hazard, cops say.

Blocking someone’s entryway is illegal in all 50 states, with fines and penalties varying by state.

For example, blocking a driveway in San Francisco, California can net a driver a hefty $286 towing fee and a $110 fine.

This does not include food to recover the vehicle from an impound lot, which costs on average more than $600.

In an emergency, a blocked entrance can mean the difference between life and death for a patient.

“In the United States, it is illegal to block a driveway, even your own,” says Parklio’s website.

“It’s a matter of public safety: emergency services like fire trucks, ambulances or police cars need this space to enter and exit.

“An obstructed driveway can also prevent vehicles from getting out onto the road to seek emergency services.”

“You’re cooler than me. A ticket is nothing,” wrote one reader.

“I would have had it towed.”

Another said that the attitude after being questioned for the first time would have resulted in a tow truck.

“The first time he asked how long I could wait, the answer would have been zero seconds and a call for him to be ticketed/towed every time after that,” they wrote.

A user responded to the comment suggesting a clever response.

“My answer to how long I could wait would be, ‘Ask the tow truck driver when he gets here,’” they said, earning 258 upvotes.

Another said altering the parking lot to accommodate contractors is one thing, but there’s never a good excuse to block the driveway.

“If a neighbor came in early and said, hey, I need to park here for a while because of this reason, I would let them. That said, there isn’t much reason to block my entry,” they said.

“I get in my car to leave and my garage is blocked with no warning? I’m going to have that car towed.”
