A homeowner at his wits end has been forced to take drastic measures to stop people blocking his driveway.

While many people consider it common courtesy to not box someone’s car, it appears this social media user has finally had enough of his neighbor’s rude behavior.

“So it’s really sad when you have to put a sign next to your driveway to prevent people from blocking your driveway,” he wrote Upstate New York resident Brian Brown on Facebook.

“NY STATE traffic law, according to the DMV, states that you cannot park within 5 feet on either side of the garage until 20 feet or it is considered blocking the driveway.”

According to Brown, this type of behavior “is happening more and more lately.”

Brown said if the behavior continues, “he will end up crashing into another vehicle.”

“Well, if you decide to park nearby and I can’t get out, you will be towed at your expense.”

“My final warning,” says Brown ominously.

Several users took to the post’s comments section to give their own opinions.

“Yes, it’s bullshit,” said one user.

“They did the same thing when I lived in Scotland, we could barely get in or out of their garage.”

One user asked Brown to check with the city to see if he could “yellow” 5 feet of curb on both sides of his driveway to indicate it was a no-parking zone.

“Good for you, shame it has come to this,” sympathized another user.

While the prospect of having someone park in your space is quite irritating, many drivers have also begun to face the irritating phenomenon of having their car towed without their knowledge.

In a Reddit post, a Texas driver claimed his friend’s car was towed without his knowledge.

“My good friend’s ex thought his car was stolen a few weeks ago,” the Redditor wrote in one post.

Why is it illegal to block a driveway?

Blocking a driveway is illegal in the United States due to limiting access to emergency care.

In addition to being reckless, blocking a driveway is a serious safety hazard, cops say.

Blocking someone’s entryway is illegal in all 50 states, with fines and penalties varying by state.

For example, blocking a driveway in San Francisco, California can net a driver a hefty $286 towing fee and a $110 fine.

This does not include food to recover the vehicle from an impound lot, which costs on average more than $600.

In an emergency, a blocked entrance can mean the difference between life and death for a patient.

“In the United States, it is illegal to block a driveway, even your own,” says Parklio’s website.

“It’s a matter of public safety: emergency services like fire trucks, ambulances or police cars need this space to enter and exit.

“An obstructed driveway can also prevent vehicles from getting out onto the road to seek emergency services.”

“He went through the entire process and filed a police report.”

After weeks of searching for his car, the ex received a notice in the mail.

His car had been repossessed.

Under Texas law, repossession services are not required to inform the car’s former owner.

However, storage facilities must report to the police within two hours of accepting a towed vehicle.
