DRIVERS have discovered a hack that can defog the windscreen in just 20 seconds using a button found in every car.

You can clear your vision in no time and even avoid sizeable fines, according to a driving instructor.

The Australian engine expert explained the nifty trick on his YouTube channel.

You can use several daily buttons on the panel to eliminate condensation quickly, with one of them also acting as a “booster” for the effect.

Windshields tend to fog up as the weather turns wintry as the humidity level in the air increases.

This then meets the cold glass and cools quickly, fogging the glass.

Car manufacturers develop many tools to help solve the problem, but using and combining them correctly can make everything easier than ever.

The air conditioner works as a booster

The petrolhead urged drivers to use the heater button that activates the fan and pushes air toward the windshield.

This can be easily identified by its international symbol, a rectangle with a rounded top and three wavy lines running through the bottom.

It’s a universal feature in modern cars and is well known, but, as the expert explained, it should be used together with two often forgotten tips.

First, make sure you turn on the air conditioning function and do not use the fan alone.

The instructor said: “It is better to turn on the air conditioning because the air conditioning works as a booster.

“It will get the job done much faster.

“You can increase it to two or three and it will be eliminated in literally 10, 15, 20 seconds.”

However, before doing this, make sure to lower the air conditioning temperature.

Although it may seem counterintuitive, this prevents the cabin from becoming damp as condensation dissipates.

Opening the window for a few seconds also helps the air escape and prevents the fog from returning.

Once your windshield is clean, you can turn the temperature back up to stay nice and toasty while you drive.

And the practical hack can save you a lot, as driving with an obstructed view is actually an offense.

If any part of your field of vision is blocked you could get into trouble with the law and be fined up to £1,000 and three points on your licence.

Social media commentators were surprised by the revelation.

One wrote: “Really helpful, thanks.”

Another added: “Very well explained.”

It comes after another expert explained how two household items can be used to make a DIY rain repellent.

Meanwhile, an experienced car salesman has revealed the three questions dealers hate as they guarantee the best price.
