Ben Brown took his 2020 Jeep to one of the company’s Charlotte, North Carolina, locations in May before a low oil pressure notification appeared on his SUV’s dashboard, ABC affiliate reports. WSOC-TV reported.

The warning started appearing just a few hours after he exited the Take 5 Oil Change and he could never have expected it to lead to a correction of over $8,000.

“So I stopped, opened the oil tank and smoke was coming out of it,” Brown said.

He is not the only car owner who has reported having problems with their vehicles after visits to Take 5.

Several drivers told horror stories similar to Brown’s about the car maintenance company.

Several vehicle owners emphasized that they would face problems of “overheating”, “smoking”, “loud knocking”, “oil leak”, radiator” and a plethora of other problems after going to the business.

One dissatisfied customer whose Take 5 oil change situation ended up causing her to receive the same bad news as Brown said she needed a whole new engine costing $12,000.

After hitting the road with SUV problems, Brown called Take 5 and his Jeep was towed back to the shop.

He received a document that said a part had failed, but did not mention why.

Brown said the company promised to fix things for him before calling to say that mechanics had worked on his SUV for a second time and that it was ready for pickup.

Unfortunately, the deal he had with Take 5 would be prolonged unexpectedly and inconveniently.

“I jump in the Jeep, drive down the road,” he explained.

“I’m not a quarter mile away…the check engine light comes on.”

Brown returned to the store again and Take 5 agreed to take it to the dealership for repairs.

How often should you change your oil?

Experts say the exact number depends on several factors, including:

  1. Vehicle age. Older vehicles tend to need oil changes sooner than newer cars because used engine oil doesn’t last as long as newer oil. Additionally, clearances between moving parts tend to be greater than when the engine was new.
  2. Type of oil. Synthetic oil tends to last much longer between changes compared to synthetic or a synthetic blend.
  3. Driving conditions. People who live in dusty areas or regions with extreme weather conditions that require a lot of driving or heavy traffic should change their oil earlier than usual to keep moving parts lubricated.
  4. Cars that carry heavy loads, such as regularly towing a trailer, as this puts stress on the engine.

Typically, older cars should have their oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. More modern cars can go between 5,000 and 7,500 miles between changes, especially because modern oil contains more efficient lubricants and additives. Some cars that use synthetic oil only need to be changed every 15,000 miles.

It’s important to read your owner’s manual to determine the exact weight and range your car needs.

The dealer told the driver that his Jeep needed a whole new engine and he blames Take 5 for that.

“I feel abused,” Brown admitted.

“I mean, I was subjected to this. Stress, anxiety and frustration.”

To get a new engine in his vehicle, it would cost Brown between $3,000 and $8,000, according to auto experts with Auto zone.

“Or even more so when you have a mechanic to do the work,” Auto Zone informed drivers.

“And even replacing the engine yourself will likely cost $2,000 or more using the most economical options.”

Take 5 has an ‘F’ rating with the Best Business Bureau.

Their customers have also given Take 5 Oil Change 1.3 stars out of 5 with a list of over 300 claims in a single year.
