The Republican candidate says Biden does not want to resign and that Democrats have few options to force him to resign.

Donald Trump said he does not expect Joe Biden to end his bid for re-election as president of the United States, suggesting he will remain in the race because of his ego.

In a phone interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night, the Republican nominee said Biden “could very well stay” in the race despite growing pressure to drop out due to concerns about his physical fitness and mental.

“He has an ego and he doesn’t want to give up,” Trump said. “He doesn’t want to do this. It seems to me that this is what he wants.”

Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, said there was little the Democratic Party could do to force Biden out of the race, beyond invoking a constitutional provision that allows the vice president and cabinet members to declare the president unable to fulfill their obligations. functions.

“He has all the power, he has the delegates,” Trump said. “He doesn’t need to leave.”

Trump has said he expects Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee if Biden decides to step aside.

“I think it will be her,” he said. “I think they are very worried about the vote if it doesn’t happen… They are shy, they don’t want to do it any other way.”

Trump’s comments came after Biden on Monday again rejected calls for him to resign following his disastrous debate performance last month, insisting in a letter to congressional Democrats that he is committed to “running this race to the finish line.” end and defeating Donald Trump.”

So far, six elected Democrats have publicly called on Biden to step aside since the debate, during which Biden stumbled over his words and appeared to lose his train of thought.

Several other Democratic lawmakers have publicly raised concerns about Biden’s ability to defeat Trump, given his age and condition.

Still, Biden has so far managed to keep most of the top Democratic brass on side, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday reiterating their support for the president.

In his Fox News interview, Trump also addressed last month’s debate for the first time, calling it a “strange night.”

“I thought his voice was weak, I didn’t know exactly what was going on,” he said of Biden.
