The Paris 2024 Olympics will see the Games return to the French capital after 100 years, making it the second city after London to host the Summer Olympics for the third time.

Most of the 329 events will be held in Paris and its metropolitan area, but some will be held hundreds of kilometers away from the city, and the surfing competition will be held more than 15,000 kilometers (9,300 miles) away in French Polynesia .

Here’s what you need to know about the 35 Olympic venues:

Aquatic Center

Location: Paris
Events: Artistic swimming, diving, water polo

Located 2 km (1.24 miles) from the Olympic Village, the center is one of two purpose-built venues and will host several aquatic competitions during the Games.

Arena Bercy

Location: Paris
Events: Artistic gymnastics, basketball, trampoline

Built in 1984 on the banks of the River Seine, the indoor arena has hosted international sporting events over the years and will be an important venue for the Games in 2024.

Bordeaux Stadium

Location: Bordeaux
Events: Soccer

The home of French League 1 club Bordeaux will host men’s and women’s football matches.

Champ de Mars Arena

Location: Paris
Events: Judo, wrestling

The capital’s multicultural and multi-sports arena will host several events during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Versailles Castle

Location: Versailles
Events: Equestrian, modern pentathlon

The grounds of the historic Palace of Versailles will be transformed into a temporary outdoor arena to host equestrian and modern pentathlon events.

Chateauroux Shooting Center

Location: Châteauroux
Events: Shooting

The center is one of the largest shooting venues in Europe and will welcome hundreds of athletes to its various shooting ranges during the Games.

Eiffel Tower Stadium

Location: Paris
Events: Beach volleyball

France’s most famous landmark will host beach volleyball events in its iconic public gardens.

Mount Elancourt

Location: Paris
Events: Cycling – mountain biking

The hill is the highest point in the Paris region and will offer mountain biking athletes stunning views of the city as they ride the trail.

Geoffery-Guichard Stadium

Location: Saint-Étienne
Events: Soccer

An icon in French football history, the venue also known as the Saint-Etienne Stadium is one of five football venues for the Games.

Big palace

Location: Paris
Events: Fencing, taekwondo

Located in the heart of Paris and built in 1900, the famous glass-roofed venue will serve as the Games venue for fencing and taekwondo events before returning to host cultural events.

Hotel de Ville

Location: Paris
Events: Athletics

Paris City Hall and its surroundings will be the place where the 2024 Olympic Games marathon will begin.

Invalid

Location: Paris
Events: Archery, athletics and road cycling

The gardens of the Hotel des Invalides will host archery events during the Games, as well as being part of road cycling and athletics tracks.

La Beaujoire Stadium

Location: Nantes
Events: Soccer

The home of Nantes football club in western France will host men’s and women’s football.

La Concorde Stadium

Location: Paris
Events: 3×3 basketball, breaking, freestyle BMX cycling, skateboarding

The newest addition to the Olympics – at the last minute – will be unveiled at the multi-sport arena in the heart of Paris.

Le Bourget sport climbing site

Location: Le Bourget
Events: Sport climbing

Le Bourget is one of the few venues built specifically for the Games and also includes indoor facilities.

National Golf

Location: Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines
Events: Golf

The Ryder Cup golf course in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines will host 120 athletes on its 18-hole course during the Games.

Lyon Stadium

Location: Lyon
Events: Soccer

The home of Olympique Lyonnaise, seven-time French football champion, is among the stadiums that will host the sport during the Games.

Marseille Marina

Location: Marseille
Events: Navigation

The city of Marseille will host several sports, with sailing taking place in the Mediterranean.

Marseille Stadium

The headquarters of the Marseille football club will be one of the football venues during the Games.

Beautiful stadium

Home to the French League 1 football club Nice, this stadium is located on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Paris North Arena

Location: Paris
Events: Boxing, modern pentathlon
The modular arena at the Villepinte Exhibition Center will come to life for the Games to host the preliminary round of boxing and the fencing qualifying round of the modern pentathlon.

Park of the Princes

Location: Paris
Events: Soccer
The iconic home of the Paris Saint-Germain football club has hosted numerous international sporting events since its opening in 1972 and will host men’s and women’s gold medal football matches.

Arena Paris La Defense

Location: Paris
Events: Swimming and water polo
The multi-functional modular venue in Nanterre, a northern suburb of Paris, has hosted numerous sporting and cultural events since opening in 2017 and will host swimming and water polo competitions during the Games.

Pierre Mauroy Stadium

Location: Lille
Events: Basketball and handball

Home to the famous French football club Lille, the stadium is located more than 200 km (124 miles) north of the host city, Paris.

Basketball stars from around the world will light up the 50,000-capacity venue during the Games.

Alexandre III Bridge

Location: Paris
Events: Road cycling, marathon swimming and triathlon

The famous bridge over the River Seine will become the Olympic venue in July. It will serve as a viewing platform for the open water swimming marathon and triathlon, as well as being part of the road cycling competition.

Arena Porte de La Chappelle

Location: Paris
Events: Badminton and rhythmic gymnastics

Located a short distance from the Olympic Village, the arena will host several cultural events during the Games, while also serving as a venue for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics.

Rolland Garros Stadium

Location: Paris
Events: Boxing and tennis

The world-famous clay-court tennis venue will be back in the spotlight less than two months after the French Open championship, when it will host the Games’ boxing and tennis events.

Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome and BMX Stadium

Location: Montigny-le-Bretonneux
Events: Track cycling and BMX racing

The velodrome in northern France serves the country’s cycling needs and will be the main track cycling venue for the Games.

The adjacent BMX Stadium will host BMX cycling competitions on its newly constructed tracks.

Paris South Arena

Events: Handball, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting

The venue was built as part of Expo Paris and has undergone several renovations since its opening in 1923. It will function as one of the main Olympic events and logistics facilities.

France Stadium

Events:

Built as France’s triumphant host at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the Stade de France will serve as the main Olympic stadium for the 2024 Games.

The country’s national stadium will host rugby sevens and a wide range of athletics events.

Teahupo’o

Location: Tahiti, French Polynesia
Events: To surf

The location that will host the return of surfing to the Olympic Games has been among the most debated topics in the preparation for the Games.

Located 15,000 km (approximately 9,320 miles) away from the host city, the small village on the southwest coast of Tahiti in French Polynesia is considered an “Olympic class” challenge for athletes vying for medals in surfing events.

The Trocadero

Location: Paris
Events: Athletics, road cycling

The famous venue in the heart of the French capital and opposite its most iconic landmark, the Eiffel Tower, will host a series of athletics events and road cycling competitions.

In addition, it will continue to welcome fans and visitors with activities, presentations and platforms for viewing the Games.

Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium

Location: Vaires-sur-Marne
Events: Canoeing slalom, canoeing sprint, rowing

The nautical stadium in northern France was the first newly developed Olympic facility to be delivered for the 2019 Games.

Its lake and rapids stadium will host rowing and canoeing events at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Yves-du-Manoir Stadium

Location: Colombes
Events: Hockey

This historic site in Colombes, a northwest suburb of Paris, will become one of the few sports arenas in the world to host two Olympic Games in July 2024.

Built in 1907, the stadium hosted the 1924 Games and hosted the opening ceremony and also the main athletics events.

This time it will host all hockey matches and later become the headquarters of the French Hockey Federation.
