Biles launches Yurchenko’s impressive double lance to finish ahead of Brazilian Rebeca Andrade and compatriot Jade Carey.

Simone Biles struck gold in the women’s vault with her gravity-defying double Yurchenko spear, propelling her to a third Paris Games triumph and her seventh career Olympic crown.

Biles, who led the United States to team gold before winning all-around gold, produced a pair of stunning vaults on Saturday to earn a resounding victory over Olympic and world champion Rebeca Andrade of Brazil. American Jade Carey took bronze.

Biles took control with her opening vault, the Yurchenko double spear now called Biles II.

Her height off the vault table was astonishing, and although her momentum took her a step back upon landing, her execution score of 9.4, along with the difficulty score of 6.4 for the move so difficult that none another woman tries, yields 15,700.

The American also impressed with her second attempt. She ran down the runway and launched herself into the Cheng vault, which incorporates a round-and-a-half entrance with a turn-and-a-half spin to finish. She won 14,900.

The 27-year-old achieved a comfortable victory at the Bercy Arena with an average of 15,300 points.

Andrade opened with a beautiful jump from Cheng that scored 15,100 points and took a slight leap when he landed his second jump for 14,833 and an average of 14,966.

Carey was last of the eight finalists and took bronze with an average of 14.466, denying An Chang Ok of North Korea.

Biles, dressed in bright red, had a big smile as she received another rapturous reception at Bercy Arena.

Her smile was as big as she greeted the judges after landing her second jump, and she was still smiling as she greeted coach Laurent Landi.

Biles arrived in Paris as the most decorated gymnast in the world and has reached new heights by winning gold medals in all three women’s events so far in Paris.

The US superstar now has a total of 40 world and Olympic medals – 30 of them gold.

She now has 10 Olympic medals in total, seven of which are gold.

She led Team USA to the top of the podium in the team final before winning her second Olympic all-around title two days ago.

Biles could further add to her tally when she competes in the balance beam and women’s floor finals on Monday, capping her return to Olympic prime after a disorienting and dangerous bout of mental blocking called “twisties” caused her to drop out. most of its events in Tokyo.
