Apple’s 9th-generation iPad is on sale for $229 now

We don’t always need the latest, most powerful version of a device, especially when it costs more money than an older version that works. If you’ve been waiting for a good deal on an iPad that can handle the basics, the 9th generation iPad is worth considering. A variant with 64 GB of storage will be , which is $100 off the regular price. The discount applies to silver and space gray colors.

This model is from 2021 and in fact, it discontinued it in May, so this is effectively a flash sale as the company looks to clear out stock – possibly before a new entry-level iPad. This isn’t exactly the lowest price this model has dropped to (it was down to $209 at one point), but it’s a decent deal as long as you’re not planning on video editing or playing the latest games natively.

The 10.2-inch Retina display should be quite capable of handling most of your video streaming, web browsing, and productivity needs. The iPad should also be reasonably fast, thanks to the A13 Bionic chip. You can even use it to draw if you have the first-generation Apple Pencil.

The ultra-wide front camera supports Apple’s Center Stage feature. This way, you should remain in the middle of the frame while on FaceTime or other video calls.

One factor worth considering is that this is the last flagship iPad with a Lightning port. So it’s worth keeping this in mind if you have an iPhone 15 and are getting rid of your old Lightning cables. And while Apple will still allow 9th-gen iPad owners to update to iPadOS 18 when it’s available, OS updates won’t last forever.
