A woman died Thursday morning at Chicago O’Hare International Airport after becoming stuck in a baggage claim, authorities told ABC News.

The woman, who has not yet been publicly identified, is believed to be in her 40s, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Although the woman was not identified, she was a member of the public and not an airport employee, according to a Department of Labor spokesperson.

Emergency crews were called to Terminal 5 around 7:45 a.m. Thursday following reports of a woman “trapped in machinery,” firefighters said.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the woman “entangled in the conveyor belt system used to transport the luggage,” authorities said.

Doctors pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The area has been declared a crime scene and the Chicago Police Department is investigating.
