Strong to severe storms have been moving through central, northern and eastern New Mexico today. Several severe thunderstorms warned, producing strong wind gusts, heavy rain, and hail larger than 1-2″ in diameter continue to occur this evening. These storms will continue until late evening/early Sunday morning before moving out of the state.

Drier air will arrive in the southern part of the state on Sunday, just in time for Mother’s Day. There will still be some prolonged rain/storms further north, especially in the mountains. Even drier weather will persist into early next week, allowing temperatures to rise above average again. Another storm will likely cross the state by the middle of next week, bringing more widespread chances of torrential rain.
