Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butler waged a series of attacks on President Biden’s leadership in a recent commencement address, criticizing the president’s policies on abortion, gender ideology and the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a commencement address last Saturday at Benedictine College — a Catholic liberal arts college in Kansas — Butker said the negative parts of society in recent years can be attributed to “bad leaders who don’t stay in their ways.”
“While COVID may have played a role throughout your formative years, it is not the only one,” Butker said during his speech. “Bad policies and weak leadership have had a negative impact on major life issues. Things like abortion, in vitro fertilization, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as growing support for degenerate cultural values and media, all result from the spread of disorder.”
“Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally,” he continued.
Biden is only the second Catholic president of the USA and was forced to balance the controversial issue of abortion with the support of the Democratic Party base for reproductive rights.
The president usually attends Saturday night Mass with his family, near his home in Wilmington, Del., or in Washington, D.C., and the White House has said Biden’s faith is personal to him.
Biden noted that he doesn’t like abortion very much, but he openly supports reproductive rights that were previously granted in Roe v. Wade.
He has not shied away from criticizing Republican leaders and states that have taken steps to restrict access to the medical procedure. His support for abortion access led to calls for the Church not to offer him communion.
Butker’s remarks were an apparent reference to when Biden gestured the sign of the cross last month during a demonstration against abortion restrictions.
“He has been so vocal in his support of the murder of innocent babies that, I’m sure, to a lot of people, it seems like you can be both Catholic and pro-choice,” Butker added. “He is not alone. From the man behind COVID lockdowns to the people pushing dangerous gender ideologies on America’s youth, they all have one clear thing in common: they are Catholic. This is an important reminder that being Catholic alone is not enough.”
The Biden administration has unveiled a series of protections for the LGBTQ community over the past three years, and the president has not been afraid to attack Republicans who fight against such policies.
