A San Diego whale-watching captain this week shared a short but wonderful video clip showing a dog intently watching a surfacing blue whale.
“First mate Fin reporting for whale watching duty!” Captain Dom Biagini, owner of Whale Watching in San Diegostated via Instagram.
Biagini added: “This is the first time I’ve taken Fin with me on a filming expedition, and he had so much fun looking for all the wildlife.”
Blue whaleswhich can measure almost 30 meters and weigh 200 tons, are the largest creatures on the planet.
The footage was captured by Erica Sacksonalso with Gone Whale Watching, and we can’t help but wonder what was going through Fin’s mind when the majestic leviathan revealed his enormous stroke of luck before a deep dive.
Several Instagram followers chimed in with comments, including this one from Sackrison:
“1. ‘You can swim beneath me at any time.’
“two. ‘I wonder if you taste like chicken.’ ”
Other observations:
-“So cool. Go Fin!!!
-“That’s all! ”
-“Priceless…. What they must think as they sink again.
–“I wonder if he can hear them singing underwater.”
Biagini told FTW Outdoors that Fin is a 5-year-old yellow lab/golden retriever he rescued near the U.S.-San Diego border.
On Instagram, Biagini reflected on Fin’s evolution as a fellow whale watcher:
“The first time I took Fin on the boat was when he was a puppy, and he immediately ran to the front of the boat and jumped into the bay! We’ve come a long way since then!”
