Teacher Rebecca Joynes, 30, was found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust, following a two-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Ms Joynes denied sex with one student, known as Boy A, and insisted that her relationship with the second teenager, Boy B, culminated after she was asked to leave her job and was therefore not illegal.

During the entire trial, the teacher tucked a pink baby hat into her pants.

She kept the hat, belonging to the son, father of one of the teenagers from whom she allegedly took her virginity, visible during the two days on the witness stand.

In his closing speech, Joe Allman, prosecuting, told the jury at Manchester Crown Court: “She is aware of the optics here. She’s not stupid. Is Mrs. Joynes more cunning than she seems?

Their mother and father, sitting in the public gallery, did not react, but just meters away the boys’ parents stifled applause as Mrs Joynes was sentenced.

Judge Kate Cornell thanked the jurors and said she would need reports on the defendant before she could hand down the sentence in July.

She posted bail for Joynes but warned her: “There is a baby in this case who has done nothing wrong and is completely innocent of all wrongdoing and you will obviously want to see her before the sentence is handed down, I understand that .

“But you should have no illusions about what will happen on July 4th.”

Michael O’Brien, defending, applied for bail for the defendant and is now making an application for bail.
