20-acre wildfire burning southwest of Eugene, near Veneta

Reports Watch Fire Service Map Late Friday afternoon indicated that an estimated 20-acre wildfire was burning near Siuslaw River Road at milepost 24 near Veneta.

In a statement Friday evening, the Lorane Rural Fire Protection District said there was a known vegetation fire reportedly west of the Veterans Legacy Campground near Siuslaw River Road.

Multiple units from the Lane Fire Authority South Battalion and the Oregon Department of Forestry were on scene. Residents were advised to avoid the area, but no further information was immediately available.

A time-lapse video captured alertwildfire.org showed a cloud of smoke rising from the hills south of Veneta.

According to Watch Duty, the fire was considered the “Letsom Mt. Fire.”
