It’s been just over a month since the city made its first efforts to clean up the Kensington area. Now, the Philadelphia Police Department has announced it will move into the second phase of its five-phase plan to clean up Kensington. Police are calling this the “enforcement” phase. At this stage, the police will focus on tackling crimes against quality of life, as well as repressing open-air drug activity. Additionally, police plan to target any potential drug dealers in the community. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel announced that the department would deploy more than 70 officers to the Kensington area as early as next week. PHL17’s Tyrone Sharper reports live from Philadelphia Police Headquarters.
