CNN anchor Boris Sanchez came prepared Wednesday during an interview with Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI), fact-checking several false facts related to the President’s impeachment inquiry Joe Biden and at one point holding an enlarged copy of a check the congressman was referring to in an attempt to make his case.
On CNN News centerTiffany called for Biden to be held accountable, even as House Republicans struggled to name any specific wrongdoings worthy of impeachment by the Democratic president.
When Sanchez asked what specific charges he would like to see filed, Tiffany referred Biden Hunter‘s overseas business, but declined to mention that the period he cited occurred after the elder Biden was vice president — and when he held no government position.
Tiffany insisted that Biden “has a check for $40,000 with his name on it.”
“You have another check for $200,000 that came to him from Jim and Sarah Biden,” he said, as Sanchez held up a copy of that same 2018 check.
“Sir, I have this check right here,” Sanchez said, writing down the year. “And it actually says it was a refund. This was repayment of a loan from your brother.”
Tiffany then switched gears.
“So you could argue that the Bidens didn’t do this while Joe Biden was vice president, but I think that’s the opposite of what’s on record,” he said, despite having just seen the date on the check.
Tiffany then incorrectly alleged that when Biden was vice president, he “terminated the prosecutor in Ukraine in connection with the Burisma investigation” — a reference to the Ukrainian energy company where his son Hunter was once a board member.
What it was not trueas Sanchez noted.
“Oh, sir, this has been debunked,” he said. “This prosecutor was unanimously hated by both Republicans and Democrats. And even EU officials said he was corrupt and wanted him eliminated.”
