Man charged with murder after victim was found with blunt force injuries Friday in Lexington

One man is dead and another has been arrested and charged with murder following an attack Friday on Old Georgetown Street in Lexington.

The Lexington Police Department found a man suffering from blunt force trauma when he was called to the 100 block of Old Georgetown Street to respond to a gun attack at 11:48 a.m., police said in a news release.

The man died at the scene, according to police.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office later identified him as Charles McDowell, 57.

McDowell was pronounced dead at 12:37 a.m. at 199 Old Georgetown Street, according to a news release from the coroner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday in Frankfurt.

Police arrested Roger Wiley, 55, and charged him with second-degree murder and assault. He was being held Friday afternoon at the Fayette County Detention Center.

The incident marks the seventh homicide of the year in lexington, according to the police. By this time last year, there had been nine homicides.
