ABC Anchor George Stephanopoulos grilled governor of New Hampshire. Chris Sununu on “This Week” for 9 hot and tense minutes due to the latter’s earlier insistence that donald trump drop out of the presidential race if convicted of federal charges, while Sununu has also endorsed Nikki Haley in the primaries. Sununu sang a different song on Sunday morning and told the host, “Me and 51% of America” will support Trump as the Republican Party candidate no matter what.

The admission came near the end of the interview, when Stephanopoulos neatly summarized the conversation. He said, “So, just to summarize, you would support him for president even if he was convicted in classified documents, you would support him for president even if you believe he contributed to an insurrection.”

“You support him for president, even if you believe he is lying about the last election, you support him for president, even if he is convicted in the Manhattan case,” Stephanopoulos continued. “I just want to say the answer is ‘yes’, correct?”

Sununu’s affirmative response was no surprise at the time, as the build-up to the climactic question had been tense and direct. After Stephanopoulos reminded the governor of his previous statement that “the domestic terrorists who attacked the United States Capitol must be held accountable and prosecuted,” he asked if Sununu still stands by that statement.

“One hundred percent, of course they need to be sued, and they are being sued,” Sununu responded. “That’s good. I think he, in fact, his actions absolutely contributed to that. There’s no doubt about that.”

“I hate the electoral denialism of 2020,” added the governor. “Nobody wants to talk about this in 2024. I think this whole thing was absolutely terrible, but what people are going to vote for, what I want, the reason I’m supporting not just the president but a Republican administration — that’s what and that. They want cultural change in Washington.”

After Sununu meandered down the anti-woke path in DC, Stephanopoulos redirected to the point at hand. He said: “His words were very, very clear on January 11th. You’ve said that President Trump’s rhetoric and actions contributed to the insurrection. No other president in American history has contributed to an insurrection. So please explain, given the fact that you believe he contributed to an insurrection, how can you say we should have him back in the Oval Office?

Sununu quickly responded and admitted that for him, Trump is not the main story. He explained: “It’s not, because for me it’s not so much about him. It’s having a Republican administration, Republican secretaries, Republican rules, a notion that states’ rights come first, individual rights come first, parental rights come first.”

Later in the conversation, Sununu accused Stephanopoulos of being trapped in a “New York City bubble” that prohibits him from understanding what most Americans want from his leadership.

“It’s not just about supporting Trump. It’s getting rid of what we have today. It’s about understanding that inflation is destroying families. It’s understanding that this border issue is not a Texas issue,” Sununu continued. “It’s a 50-state issue that needs to be controlled. It’s about this kind of elitism that the average American is sick and tired of, and it’s a cultural shift. That’s what I’m supporting.”

Sununu added that the Jan. 6 insurrection is not a “major issue” for voters.
