Mother is grateful that her son is alive after being shot by Deputy Douglas trying to stop the carjacking suspect

A mother says she is grateful her son is alive after she was shot by a police officer following the end of a two-county police chase.

The child is OK after being shot in the arm at the BP gas station on Fulton Industrial Boulevard Sunday night.

The child’s mother posted a video of the bullet on her Instagram page. She captioned the photo “Can’t stop crying.”

The GBI says this all started when Dallas police arrested 25-year-old Rashauny Mike Palmer on Sunday for aggravated assault and kidnapping. They say even though he was handcuffed, he escaped from a patrol unit, jumped in his car and drove east on Interstate 20.

Deputies say Palmer crashed on Fulton Industrial Boulevard and ran to BP, where he attempted to steal the child’s mother’s car. She was parked near the gas station when he approached the car.

Douglas County deputies say they opened fire on Palmer. Deputies say a bullet fragment struck the child. The mother posted a photo on Instagram of police officers surrounding her daughter at the scene.

She also posted the junior badge the NCOs gave her daughter. Her mother says her daughter called her a crybaby because she cried so much.

Police arrested Palmer.

The Dallas Police Department charged Palmer with the following:

  • Obstruction of police officers

  • Criminal attempt to commit murder

  • Battery – intentionally causes substantial physical harm or visible bodily harm to another person

  • Battery – family violence

  • False false imprisonment – ​​family violence

  • Aggravated assault with intent to rape/murder/rob

  • Terrorist threats

  • Kidnapping – family violence

  • Escape

  • Possession of a firearm or knife while committing or attempting to commit certain crimes

  • Reckless conduct

  • Theft when taking
