State police say two people tried to flee a traffic stop with a trooper in their car.

It was after 1:30 a.m. Sunday when the officer first stopped Lamar Bailey, 36, and Kelsey Meyers, 28, near the intersection of Vogel Road. The pair allegedly stopped in a Sheetz parking lot but decided to speed up, causing the officer to be pulled into the car as the driver sped off on Route 8.

“They are leaving without concern for their safety and well-being. What’s the point of having a police officer if you’re not going to listen?” Cal Dittman said.

Officers were able to stop the car 200 feet from the road, taking Bailey and Meyers into custody.

Kimberlee Antolik of Butler said, “A lot of people need to respect police officers and not do these types of things,” Kimberlee Antolik said.

“We hold them to a higher standard. They study, they go through training and you have a Joe Schmoe who just doesn’t care,” Dittman added.

State police said that after Bailey and Meyers were arrested, their empty car rolled backwards, striking a responding state police car.

That same police car required biological decontamination after a passenger tried to spit out the window.

State Police say both Bailey and Meyers were under the influence and in possession of controlled substances.
